Wow...a whole great topic and the questions are probably ENDLESS from this wanna-be golfer to king JAG! Fire away. I'm not a very god golfer, but I LOVE talking about it. I never figured I wold be the kind of dude to have golf hook me the way it has. Me neither...and my friends think it's ridiculous, but hey...if they are laughing at me, they are giving someone else a break, right? |

I have two friends who like to play 'best ball' but I hate that...how will I improve if I don't hit my own mistakes??? Your opinion? Best ball is good for when you want to get some golf in, but don't have a lot of time. I've played it a few times. It can be fun. But I agree with you. The only way you can improve is to hit the shots out of the crappy stuff that you get yourself into. it's also the best incentive to not make the same mistakes over and over. Well it IS a self-competative sport for me (I don't take it that seriously in terms of playing against others) so I can be a little obsessive about improving my own performance. I think I really DO need to get more involved in this because just talking about golf makes me very happy... It is the only sport I know that is almost 100% self centered. Even when you are playing with someone else, it's still you against the course. Being a little obsessive about improving your game.....I know that feeling. I was absolutely HORRID for the first 5 or six years that I have been playing. I took one lesson from a younger guy I know who is a very good golfer, and the improvement was HUGE. I went from hitting around 125 on 9 holes, to having a best score of 110 on 18 last Summer. My goal this Summer is to break 100. I also have a bigger goal of hitting 95 but I'll take 100. |

If I want to take some private lessons and have a little experience (and potentially some bad habits) what do I need to ask for at the pro-shop? Just ask them if they know of a person who does lessons at a relatively cheap price. I got lucky. The young guy I know enjoys giving lessons. I had to MAKE him take 20 bucks for getting my swing right. |

Calendgirl, I was born & raised on the Eastern Shore. My daughter went to College Park & is living in Baltimore now. She works for the Baltimore Sun as an editor, blogger & literary columnist. |

Should I ignore her or let her have her way? (She is 18 and diabetic for 4 years...I'd hate to think I'd ignored her if it were her last night with me, if you know what I mean...and I LOVE this cat - best pet I ever had in my life!) |
