Signing up for my first 5K...one of my 'fitness fantasy goals' for before I turn the bit 5-OH later this year...

Should I sign up as a walker (who can only walk - no running) OR

should I sign up as a runner (who can walk as much as they want?)

I'm leaning toward the 2nd but don't want to humiliate myself either.

How much walking have you been doing??? How much running??

The way I figure it....go for the " runner " registration. Don't worry about being humiliated. I am sure you won't be the only runner that winds up walking. I'm sure you won't be the only person who is signing up for their first 5K.

2 miles daily or 2-3 on the eliptical...depending on if I'm at the hotel or at home. I interval run...it's pretty pathetic, actually, but I keep trying. Of course, if I can bottle this 'high' I'm on tonight I might be one of the top performers...until I pay for it the next day with aching muscles and exhaustion. LOL! laugh

Oh...and at least that kept the dr off my back about the cholesterol! She was impressed with the things that HAD changed for the positive and is suspecting I have a heredity issue going on...she's cool with just monitoring it. WHEW!

Of course the doc is happy about it. The docs are ALWAYS happy when the patient is torturing him/her self. lol

Second only to their joy at prescribing a high-cost Rx, IMO...

But now that I'm in the 'mode' of doing something for fitness, it is more torture to miss it. Never thought I'd hear myself say that (even virtually! LOL!)

Heh. My doc told me to be more active, quit smoking, and go on a diet.

I told him that he was allowed to pick one....lmao

Dear JustAGuy,

The Lump of Quartz tells me that there is a VERY good possibility of that happening in the very near future.

I luv, luv, luv that answer! I haven't played in MONTHS and now that I know I will be staying put and getting this new job, perhaps I can get out the clubs! I actually was just thinking about that earlier this evening, so it's like another sign from the universe that you brought it up.

I totally stink at golf, but I love it...
Was going to take some lessons and have my clubs custom fit last fall and never got around to it...

So maybe some golf questions???

How do you measure for a custom fit club length?

What color is your bag?

Do you have driver covers? Do they match?

Do you wear a glove?

If I want to take some private lessons and have a little experience (and potentially some bad habits) what do I need to ask for at the pro-shop?

I have no idea. But when I go to King Par ( the golf supercenter ) to get my new clubs, I plan on getting them fitted and have different grips put on the Driver and Fairway Woods.

Why different grips?
