to me Happy holidays means bunching them all together no mater what you celebrate or dont celebrate.

So are you saying athiest beleif isnt american? cause america is land of the free. thats america is about its about being able to have your own choice. Not at all...And I do respect your right to have your beliefs, whatever they are... All I'm saying is that it will be a sad day, in my opinion, when folks stop wishing strangers a Merry Christmas because they fear giving offense. Maybe it'll be a good day for you, or whoever... But to me it will make the world just that much sadder of a place to live.

Um since when is Christmas the only american holiday celebrated this time of year? As far as I can remember there is also our fellow Jewish people that celebrate hanukkah and people that celebrate other things. It's not about political correctness, its about respect. Get over it. I respect them......not changing the AMERICAN WAY for them to feel more comfortable......I am well aware that they have their beliefs.....it is not an AMERICAN TRADITION....hanukkah....it is Jewish.....If I am at a Jewish persons house....I respect what they believe....as long as they do the same for me... Oh my god, the things I could say right now. biting tongue So Jewish people are not American? I really don't understand your way of thinking, because its all screwed up and freakdified. Guess what, I'm AMERICAN and I don't celebrate CHRISTMAS, so I guess to you that means I'm not AMERICAN?

Christmas itself is a Mesopotamian tradition dating back over 4,000 years. It wasn't until the 300's that Christianity became the "official" religion of the Roman Empire in Europe and it wasn't until 1100 that Christmas even became a "tradition" in Europe. Christ's birth wasn't even celebrated until 98 AD and it wasn't until 350 AD that December 25th was even chosen as the day of celebration. What's American about that? My culture, religion, traditions, and practices have been here thousands of years longer. Perhaps if Christmas it to be celebrated as a tradition, one should return to Rome.

ps I'm not athiest..I'm christian. but christian or atiest or jewish doesnt make you an american.Living in America does and acceptance of all kinds of religion and culture makes you American. well merry christmas all you americans, from yur fellow canadian.!!

America is made up of many different cultures and beliefs not just christians. true.....but it is still AMERICA.....as the "holidays" should be.... People of other cultures can practice their own beliefs with out interfering with American Tradition.... A huge part of these people you refer to are american too. So what the hell tradition are you referring to? So to break it to you.....Christmas was here BEFORE any other "american" holidays...as you will call them.... Look....simple, point blank....I respect what each culture believes, and wiil even go so far as to say I am interested in learning about their beliefs, if for no other reason, just so I know in detail the origin, and reason for the practice... But the oldest tradition in this country should be the one that stands, in the matter of CHRISTMAS...

So its okay to wish someone a merry Christmas even if they are not Christian, yet its horrifying to you to utter the words "Happy Holidays" because that sentiment is too all inclusive and tolerant??
