I thought this would be interesting to share about a pre-christian religion. It is of the Norse people. I think the best information you can find on Norse Mythology is in Iceland where the Christians had a hard time to get to and transform the people to their belief systems. Iceland truly still has much writing about Norse Paganism and have held documents safely for younger generations to study.

I have known some people who still believe in Odin and Thor as their gods and do various traditional celeberations with them.

-------------------------------------------------
ASATRU

The word "Asatru" means "True to the Asa", or "True to the Gods." It is the pre-Christian faith of the ancient Germanic peoples, those being the Norse, Swedes, Germans, Danes, Anglo-Saxons, and Icelanders. Asatru is a recognized religion in Iceland, Norway and Australia, and is fast approaching recognition in Denmark. The United States does not officially recognize this religion.

Today, Asatru is practiced by living one's life in a honorable manner (for some Asatruar, this is defined by the Nine Noble Virtues) and by worshipping the Gods of Asgard through rituals and through day-to-day behavior.

Asa-folk worship the Gods of the north, which include the Aesir and the Vanir. Most people are probably familiar with at least some of the Aesir: Odin, Thor, Frigga and Baldur are all members of the Aesir, among others.

The Vanir were the original Gods of the north, but after a war and exchange of hostages, shared space and sovereignty with the Aesir. Now the two groups, Aesir and Vanir, live together in peace. Members of the Vanir include: Freyr and Freyja, Njord and Nerthus.

Yule - The major festival of the Asatru calendar. The Yule celebration, which is traditionally twelve days in length, celebrates the passing of the midpoint of winter, which was very important in the ancient North. Gods honored at Yule include both Thor and Freyr.

and boy do I love Thor in Super Marvel comicslaugh

What Is Candle Magic?

Candle magic is a very popular form of spell-craft. Anyone can do candle magic - you do not need to be a witch, or have any prior knowledge of magic or spell crafting. Its extremely versatile and best of all, its very inexpensive. Candle magic can be as basic as possible for beginners, or woven into more intricate spell craft and ceremonies for those more practiced in the art of magic.

Burning candles invokes in us a feeling of calm serenity, and gets us in touch with the earth and the natural forces of the universe. Gazing into its flame can help us to meditate, to get in touch with our inner selves and to manifest our hopes and desires. Everyone of us feels something sacred as we light a candle and contemplate it. This is because we realise deep inside of us that the small flame is a representation of the flame of divinity within each and everyone one of us. Candle magic can promote our connection with the Divine, and its an ancient tool of spell crafting and manifestation.

It is so true what you say. I actually love to have candles on at night and always do. I go to a store called Michaels and buy 10 big ones for 20 dollars. It does give a calming experience.

I find it interesting that practically every religion uses candles at one point or another. Of course I don't think they believe it has magical properties.

I wouldn't mind to learn some candle magic, as long as I don't burn my house downlaugh

Here's the only thing I could find on the history of it:

History Of Candle Magic

Candle magic is based upon the ancient art of Pyromancy. Pyromancy was one of the earliest forms of divination known to man; it is said that in Ancient Greece, virgins at the temple of Athena in Athens regularly practiced pyromancy. It is also very possible that followers of Haphaestus the Greek god of fire and the forge practiced the art.

In ancient China, Pyromancy was practiced in the Neolithic period and the Shāng and Zhōu dynasties in the form of burning or heating oracle bones - usually the shoulder blades of oxen or the shells of turtles - to produce cracks which were then read as portents.

The most basic form of Pyromancy is that in which the diviner simply observes the flames from a sacrificial fire, a candle, or any other source of flame, and interprets the shapes which he or she sees within them.

Man has long stared into flames to divine the future, the truth, or to manifest his will. Candle magic as we know it today is simply a variation of a long held tradition that has held true in many cultures throughout the ages.

yes, candle magick is one of the systems I use for magick. It works because it is a way of focusing your intent. by focusing your intent in a ritual or ceremonial way, you are tunnelling your own personal power to manifest your will.

I find that at garage and yard sales, people sometimes will sell a lot of their Witchcraft or pagan books or whatever if they were into it at one point but not any more. Every now and then you will get lucky and find a score.
