I have yet to meet or know of anyone who didnt repent while in jail/prison only to return to their old habits upon release. JMO
He was tried, sentenced and the sentence was carried out. Why extend him special priviledge because in hindsight he had a revelation/redemption? |

The death penalty has not deterred ANYONE from committing a felony. It should be abolished..... |

I'll not reveal my opinion regarding the death penalty, though I have one like everyone else.
If advocates of the death penalty started stating that it DID deter felons, I would ask them the same thing. |

Sociological studies have been conducted showing that people behave the same way in prison regardless of guilt or innocence. How would you like to be locked up? How would you feel? You see, I keep it in my mind that this could happen to me.

Stanley Tookie Williams, co-creater of the infamous crips gang. He deserved prison (life term), honestly I think only a few crimes should warrant the death penalty. As the co-creater of the gang...even he had to know the chances were slim for him, on top of the terrible crimes he was convicted of...honestly, he saw it and knew he wasn't getting out of it, but still he continued to try and change people for the better.
He is better off a memory then he would have been alive. |

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............
....who gets to decide? The victim's families? Some governing body, and man made laws? Hmmmm.... ...I personally prefer to NOT utilise the eye for an eye stuff.. the who gets to take a life.....ie.,soldiers, physicians, (abortions, euthenasia),...and who doesn't... drunk drivers, rapists, molestors, murderers... I don't get to choose... they, (both types of life takers) are both inappropriate in my world... |

It may or may not deter, however persons executed NEVER kill anyone again. In prison or out.

Stanley Tookie Williams was convicted of quadruple homicide with the special circumstance of robbery (4 counts of first degree murder). He was also involved in numerous violent fights while in prison (8 different violent occurences). So while yes he made great stride, he also limited himself early on in his sentence. |

I saw a movie last night called 'Redemption' based on a true story about a man that started a criminal gang that ended up spreading so far there was no stopping it. Blacks killing their own, killing innocent people, children that were in the way. He went to prison and lived on death row for 6 years. In that time he came to realize his mistakes and completely turned his beliefs around. He created a book with the help of a journalist who was very interested in his life story. He then created a series of childrens books that taught about gangs and how terrible they are. These books became famous in the US, Japan, Europe and other countries. He received a Nobel Prize for Peace. Many appeals to extend his stay in prison even try to be freed eventually were all denied. He was put to death in December 2005 on schedule. Do you think this man was rightfully put to death or do you think he should have been able to continue his teachings? Do the ends justify the means? I wonder something though, if people are sent to be put to death by the state, why does it take years for them to get around to it? |

I can't say what is right and what is wrong because I honestly don't know. What does bother me is that alot of these people gain notoriety for what they did, movies are done, books are written, they become somekind of icon and everyone knows their name and what they did. Seldom ever does anyone get to know what happens to the victims for the rest of their lives! They seem to be the forgotten ones!!!! That to me is wrong!

What I would like to know is why do I as a taxpayer have to provide cable TV, internet, recreation and legal protection; not to mention medical care, clothing, and food for criminals when society doesn't provide that for me. If someone lands in jail they should have to work in a prison industry or starve. If they want to work extra hours for the rest of it or talk others to support them fine but I am sick of all this sympathy for people who don't deserve it.
I am also tired of paying to incarcerate people who are more likely to be mentally ill, or under-educated, or marginally in need of assistance when more approriate care would do it. The sad fact is we do have about a million people who probably could be let out of jail but no where and no jobs for them to go to. |

You know I think the world of you.. but come on really.. They didnt ask to be put in prison??? Youre right they didnt.. but when they rape and murder and break into homes they sure arent thinking if they get caught theyre gonna get put up at the Hilton... We should have to pay these things to keep the criminals off the street and out of our neighborhoods.. thats why we all have to pay for it.. |

Youre right they didnt.. but when they rape and murder and break into homes they sure arent thinking if they get caught theyre gonna get put up at the Hilton... We should have to pay these things to keep the criminals off the street and out of our neighborhoods.. thats why we all have to pay for it..  Who did those things? Everyone? Who are "they"? What is "criminal"?

I want to rehabilitate these people,help them get their lives right. You see, I keep in mind that this could be me. Your viewing them as an out group, but for me I still see them as individuals.
