Personally I believe that Jimmy Carter was one of the best presidents the United States had, next to FDR... Sadams rise to power was thanks to the US that feared loosing total control of the region after the religious uprising in Iran, that disposed the King, another US supported dictator...but thats a different story for a different time...

Thank God that the British Rule the Falkland islands, I would hate to see a third world country Ruin that place under their Rule...

Bottom line is she wanted books removed . . . .

She did not want those books on the shelves of the library.

I am sure if the librarian had been less altruistic, and more of a follower then the books would be gone . . . and no one the wiser.

The only hoax is this list, not the fact that she broached the subject.

When I respond to your posts, I feel like I am responding to a 14 year old so I am just trying to get to your level so you can understand.

Snopes says false...

Read further . . . . snopes says the LIST is false.

Not the fact she went to the librarian. There are further letters on snopes some of which have been verified as at least having come from legit sources (if not legit content) that corroborate the fact she went to the librarian asked about removing books, and was told to shove off . . . . . said librarian was fired . . . .

Librarian was not fired. She, and a number of others, were given notice that she was to be fired it caused enough of an uproar that she wasn't fired. Palin called it a 'test of loyalty'. Not sure what that means.

I looked this up. From what I read, she didn't name books and she didn't go through with the banning. Back then she claimed to do it as a test of loyalty. Not too sure about that, what I am sure of is that it was in 1996 and none of those Harry Potter books you mentioned were written yet.

"Sarah said to Mary Ellen, ’What would your response be if I asked you to remove some books from the collection?" Kilkenny said.

"I was shocked. Mary Ellen sat up straight and said something along the line of, ’The books in the Wasilla Library collection were selected on the basis of national selection criteria for libraries of this size, and I would absolutely resist all efforts to ban books.’"

Palin didn’t mention specific books at that meeting, Kilkenny said.

Palin herself, questioned at the time, called her inquiries rhetorical and simply part of a policy discussion with a department head "about understanding and following administration agendas," according to the Frontiersman article."
huh Thats odd huh I dont understand why she would even ask about thathuh

1) The Librarian position is a politically appointed position.
2) The Librarian was appointed by the previous administration.
3) The Librarian had supported the previous mayor's re-election attempt.
4) Sarah Palin questioned the Librarian's loyalty to the new administration.
5) Sarah Palin says that the question was a loyalty test.

Given that her choice was between giving the Librarian a loyalty test or firing her outright, I think it was better for her to give the test. I'm not making a judgement call, so nobody needs to flame me, that's just the timeline as I understand it.

I think the fact that the librarian position is a politically appointed position is a bit wacky. Traditionally political appointed positions are positions of influence regarding policy implementation.

But that aside, she still asked the librarian what the procedure was for getting books banned from the library and whether she would support her efforts to do so. That's a little scary to me, whether her constituents asked for it or not.
