From the Catholic Bible...

John Chapter 8

31 To the Jews who believed in him Jesus said: If you make my word your home you will indeed be my disciples;
32 you will come to know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
33 They answered, 'We are descended from Abraham and we have never been the slaves of anyone; what do you mean, "You will be set free?" '
34 Jesus replied: In all truth I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave.
35 Now a slave has no permanent standing in the household, but a son belongs to it for ever.
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free.

37 I know that you are descended from Abraham; but you want to kill me because my word finds no place in you.
38 What I speak of is what I have seen at my Father's side, and you too put into action the lessons you have learnt from your father.
39 They repeated, 'Our father is Abraham.' Jesus said to them: If you are Abraham's children, do as Abraham did.
40 As it is, you want to kill me, a man who has told you the truth as I have learnt it from God; that is not what Abraham did.
41 You are doing your father's work. They replied, 'We were not born illegitimate, the only father we have is God.'
42 Jesus answered: If God were your father, you would love me, since I have my origin in God and have come from him; I did not come of my own accord, but he sent me.
43 Why do you not understand what I say? Because you cannot bear to listen to my words.
44 You are from your father, the devil, and you prefer to do what your father wants. He was a murderer from the start; he was never grounded in the truth; there is no truth in him at all. When he lies he is speaking true to his nature, because he is a liar,

the Jesus depicted in the King James Bible.

You forgot the Catholic Bible too. Oh and you forgot...every single accurate translation of John 8. But you did manage to get a stab in at the KJV of the Bible.

Your past behavior and comments on fundamentalists.

my most honest feelings. with all due respect ofcourse.

Are you a Christian?

yes, I am.
but just to be straight.
what my behavior seems to be for you?

You usually appear to be a good Christian, but sometimes you make this same mistake. Not every Christian is going to be walking side by side with you. Some are ahead of you and some are behind. That doesn't mean that they aren't Christians. These guys have crazy beliefs, no doubt. But you seem to be trying to get "street cred" by belittling the beliefs of protestants. You have issues with the beliefs of Fundamentalists...guess what? Your beliefs contradict those of many Christians. Grab your Bible and read Romans 14 and tell me if you should continue to put stumbling blocks in front of other Christians. You can't tear a Christian down, you have to build them up. Write about why Catholicism is right, not about why protestants are wrong.

Thanks again spider for saying it like it is...

...and for your diplomatic way of saying it too!

BTW... I believe that it's not up to me to question another's level of faith or diminish it. I have issues with denominational issues people bring up that divide...among the faithful that is (whatever level they are at.)

To discuss it is one thing but to use it to put other people down is definately a sin & God says so in His word.

For myself...I might have taken swipes at some but I never warp God's word to malisciously put people down like some do around here.

That is something everyone should check themselves of before they point fingers at someone else.

Talk about dogma... I am finding that some are using the Bible in the worst way around here. That's the only aweful going on.

In other words, I forgot that the bible is so ambigous that eveyone claims that it's saying something different.

No, not really Spider. I didn't forget that at all.

I was just having fun with at least ONE of the myriad of ambigious interpretations of the supposedly infallible word of God. bigsmile

You know my stance on it. It's all demagogurey anyway.

Who knows what some rabbi who lived 2000 years ago might have actually said? Who knows if he even actually lived at all? The whole story could be a concoction for all we know.

So how can anyone claim what Jesus said when there are so many different ambigious books that claim to contain his word?

Clearly the bible is so ambigious that it isn't even worth reading unless you enjoy fiction.

LOL the Bible is so simple it's ambiguous...to the carnal mind & only the carnal mind.

God is very plain about His intentions & purposes...except to those in emnity with Him.

That's odd.

I have no enmity toward God yet the Bible still appears to be a totally contradictive and self-inconsistent mess to me.

Sure, I can see the general myth that the authors are trying to get across. I think that's clear to everyone.

If you look at it that way it's perfectly clear what they want you to believe. Man fell from grace from God and needs to repent to get back into grace.

Everyone can see that simplistic picture Quikstepper. That's not what's in question. The real question is whether that story is being claimed by a genuine creator, or is it just a made up story by man.

That's the REAL QUESTION Quikky.

You have to go beyond the myth and ask if it's a legit story.

That's what people are concerned with.

Anyone could just read the myth and accept it as the gospel truth without questioning it. Then it's perfectly clear what the myth is trying to claim. It's just saying to believe with blind faith the stories are true and don't doubt them.

Sheesh. We can ALL SEE THAT Quikky. flowerforyou

let's get back to seriousness.
this is the Jesus I know, this is the Lord I kneel:

Back in my Lord's days who were the righteous people: the pharisees and scribes (translated in modern days the so called "christians" who used christianity to call sinners to other, and they don't see their own sins - me included), and who were the sinners: the publicans, the samaritans, the prostitutes, etc. (translated into modern days those we call pagans, atheists, etc.)

who did my Lord hang out with? the publicans, samaritans, and prostitutes (the sinners).

who did my Lord criticized so harshly? the scribes and pharisees (the righteous)

And whenever He was with the sinners he never judge them telling them they are going to hell or whatever things these "christians" do, He just told them your sins are forgiven, go in peace.

Therefore, the fundamentalist view in which others are not childrens of God just because they are not christians does not fit my view of my Lord.
And if christianity were just that, and not what it really is. I would be the first non-christian.
But since I was a little boy I have been taught the real christianity. I will remain christian.

Do you think that those publicans, samaritans and prostitutes were proud of their sins? Do you think that they rejected God?

You are denying the words of Jesus recorded in John 8 OF YOUR BIBLE and substituting your own words and assertions? Miquel, do you think that is wise? Godly?

This is exactly what I mean...people who accuse others of doing what they are the ones doing. Thanks for making my point abra...

Don't think your dumb remarks intimidate me...I'm in GREAT company with ANY of God's chosen.

Unlike those like Lonely (I'm not surprized he is either..lonely that is) who disrespect God by putting down those he knows nothing about & claiming he knows something he doesn't, causing division instead of good faith. How sad for him.

I don't expect much from you or JB or others...but here's a guy who claims he knows God but completely throws God's word under the bus. DUH!!!!

I didn't say that you shouldn't love them, did I? I didn't say that they aren't brothers and sisters in humanity, did I? But not everyone is a child of God, according to Jesus. I'm not making a baseless assertion here, that is what Jesus taught.

And I can assure you that they were repentant, otherwise they wouldn't have sought out Jesus.

Mark 3:32-35

And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

What I'm saying agrees with what Jesus taught. What you are saying contradicts what Jesus taught.

Was Jesus...

A) Misquoted (meaning that the Bible has false teachings in it)
B) A liar
C) Confused
D) Wrong
E) Right and you are wrong
