I'VE BEEN CURIOUS FOR YEARS NOW WHY PEOPLE KEEP THE REBEL, CIVIL WAR, SOUTHERN FLAG ALIVE AND WEAR IT LIKE A BADGE. I THOUGHT THAT WAS HISTORY AND WE WERE ALL AMERICANS AND ONE UNION. PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME. I'VE BEEN WONDERING THIS FOR 5 DECADES

Being from the south I'll try to answer...
It is a missed placed loyalty to a heritage they share.... Not so much a loyalty to "slavery", sadly in some cases that is the case but more so, it is a loyalty to what there ancestors did. The stories many grew up with was about revolution and standing up for their rights.....Now of course the thought of owning slaves is appalling to you and I but back then that is not how they felt. To them losing their slaves was a direct assault on their lively hoods, meaning they believed they could not feed their children and they fought for their rights.....As missed placed as theos right were. I guess its one of those things that, you would need to walk in their shoes to truly understand it from their point of view...and as for today that still applies. I hoped this helped |

its not you hun... i take offense to people who hang it and try and make it a race thing when if it were a race thing i def. would not be hanging it. i used to live in mt vernon il. i know how st louis is... i just get aggravated at stupid people plus i dont feel well tonight so i am grouchy

This flag was originally square, the rectangular version we see most often today had a lighter blue cross & was a naval flag. The real CSA flag was similar to the US flag, the blue square had a circle of stars & there were 3 stripes red, white, red. It was called the Stars & Bars. The "Bonnie Blue Flag" was one of the flags of Texas & was also used as a battle flag. There is much confusion over "Confederate" flags. I think the Southern Cross has different meaning to many people. |
