If you aren't familiar with the TV show "To Catch a Predator" it is a show were people chat with men posed as underage kids. When the men talk about sex and ask for a meeting Dateline's Chris Hanson meets the possible pedophile with a camera. My question is, Is this Journalism or entertainment? And should the media play the part of being an extension of the law? And while they do so is this Entrapment?

yeah..it's entrapment... but the men set themselves up for it, and if it was my kid they were perving... they'd be glad to meet chris hanson and not me bigsmile

I think that is a great show, but both entertainment and journalism. I have, however wondered about the entrapment issue as well, like on COPS when they set up a bait car or a bike for someone to steal....what constitutes entrapment?

Just to clarify, I am not defending the alleged pedophiles, but just curious as to what others think about this.

Regardless of what anyone calls it..I feel the sick people should have zero rights. Entrapment, Journalism, whatever it may be...Whatever it takes to expose these people to the media should be done...

THen hang them by their nutz and castrate themmad

Who cares if it's entrapment or not.. the men think they are talking to underage kids and go there expecting to have sex. So they themselves chose to break the law therefore they should be locked under the jail! grumble grumble grumble

its actually standard police tactics, also now considered entertainment, but if the police or the government dont consider it an issue ( or dont have enough of our tax dollars to establish a unit for it) until after the media glorifies it, then the help should be appreciated and not criticized. Just an opinion.

Well, as long as they say they are of legal age, you're safe!

Entraptment is when it is the law enforcements idea to commit the crime. Just providing the opportunity is not.
However, some of the conversations they use are someone intiated by the online group. They say it isn't entrapment because they don't initiate the sexual talk.

It's both journalism and entertainment. As long as criminals are being caught then let the media be an extension to the law. Pedophiles entrap so why not beat them at their own game.

I love the show and I give an A+ . Let them catch the pedophiles and let the pedophiles rot in jails . Use any tricks to catch criminals and I am with you . Children and society must be protected from dirt .

It's the same with undercover drug busts... what's the difference? Entrap em' cuz if one talks to my daughter, there will be a few angry Irish on their ass, and they'd pray for the cops to come.

Then when do others rights begin and end? once we start stripping away rights and police standards we become more like the criminals we are trying to protect society from.
