JSH before: friendly place where all the threads were friendly, and everybody was invited into the conversation. JSH now: close circles of friends, in close threads, where newbies are usually (read this word "usually" which means most of the times, but not always) ignored. isn't this sort of the natural evolution of socializing? agree ^^^^^ I think there is a sort of natural evolution re: identifying and establishing relationships with certain people here, based on common ground, mutual respect, etc. Some people you're just going to like more than others, identify with more than others. Perfectly normal. Where it gets to be a problem is when these "alliances" become exclusionary and hostile towards "outsiders." It happens; there's a bit of it going on now, but the current cliques are more insular than actively abusive. There are others here who have formed circles of friends which are not exclusive; they're open to accepting new people, other people, into the circle. I think what may happen there, sometimes -- based on what people tell me via e-mail -- is that there are some who are simply afraid to participate in a thread which is clearly full of friends who have known each other for some time. They are afraid of being seen as "intrusive." My experience has been, though, that most of the current members welcome new people, provided the new people follow the rules and behave decently. |

I do know what you mean, Miguel; I have wandered into a thread now and again where no matter how witty my repartee was, it was ignored because I wasn't one of them. But most people on here are not like that. ok sorry didn't mean to flatter you.... it's just true how nice of you to say..I think. |

prefer the old days myself so does that mean you think that anyone who joined after you is somehow ruining your experience? |

prefer the old days myself so does that mean you think that anyone who joined after you is somehow ruining your experience? See, THAT was the mindset of so many of the "orginals" as the site grew. There used to be complaints along the lines of "I don't like the way the site is now. It's not my JSH anymore." As if the site had been solely and strictly designed for them! They couldn't see that a site needs new people in order to thrive. They wanted it to be some kind of stagnant, dead-end morass, with the same few old-timers, for all eternity. Which really doesn't work very well for people who want to join a dating site to find somebody to date....unless you wanted to date one of the old stick-in-the-mud people, which wasn't going to happen because you were new and they weren't going to lower themselves to acknowledge your existence anyway. |

I like the site the way it is; some really cool people have come and gone since I have been here; and some I could have done without as well. There are so many people, so many threads, and so many opportunities to start your own threads that you can really do a lot to create your own experience here and determine to some extent, the quality of that experience.

When I first came to JSH there were lots of fun and laughs but these days there are less laughs and more ugliness of all sorts...

No, someone told me it was my fault that JSH was no fun anymore. Apparently I am bombastic and heavy-handed. I can't let you take the blame. |

Define the time frame of "the good old days" please.

i don't get the "proprietary thread" concept where the op takes some kind of weird ownership control of their thread... i view threads as conversations that have been started rather than shrines which are under construction... I have actually been asked by people to get out of their thread; at which point I remind them that this is a public forum. That was why I wrote my Hey Hey You You parody. It's like "Hey get off of my cloud." or: "Stop raining on my parade." I have been told not to butt into a private conversation. Private? I told them if they wanted private conversation they should send emails or messages and not post in a public forum. But people love an audience. |
