Lex, I can't relate to why people would be actively hostile to newcomers. That's awful.

I do know what you mean, Miguel; I have wandered into a thread now and again where no matter how witty my repartee was, it was ignored because I wasn't one of them.
But most people on here are not like that. |

I'm not clique-worthy. Which is good, because I don't subscribe to cliques. I'm friendly to almost anyone, tolerant of most, and only hostile when breathed upon in an unkind manner.
Are there cliques? Sure, but just like in life, you learn to either be part of it, or take your views/thoughts/jokes elsewhere. No different than going into some neighborhood bar. Everyone knows a bar where the people inside think it's their own little world... either accepting of newcomers, or hostile towards them. You go on and find yourself your own place in the world. Much as you can do in the online world. (And not JUST with JSH.) JMNSHO (= |

My, we ARE an unfriendly bunch, aren't we? I have been told I have a clique but I beg to differ. I have way too many friends on here to keep them all in one group. Some of them don't even know the other ones..so how can it be a clique? A clique is by definition a close group that exludes other people. you and I get along with everybody, except, of course, the morons. But who cares about that? |

Lex, I can't relate to why people would be actively hostile to newcomers. That's awful. When I posted my first thread, I was greeted with one of the most vulgar responses you can imagine. And my post was about a strange e-mail I had received from a site member. I almost left the site right then and there. I thought, "If this is how they treat new people here, what's the point?" But I stuck around and things started to change. The one who posted the bad response was later banned for using the site to send threatening and vulgar e-mails to a man in his 70s who was here looking for friends.... |

I saw it done last night to a woman who was looking for help with her daughter. It was her first post and some of the responses she got made me cringe. They were downright mean. I was embarrassed. |

Posting one's first post is difficult to do. But..to be shot down when you have finally dared to do it... He was banned. Karma. |

i don't get the "proprietary thread" concept
where the op takes some kind of weird ownership control of their thread... i view threads as conversations that have been started rather than shrines which are under construction... |

i don't get the "proprietary thread" concept where the op takes some kind of weird ownership control of their thread... i view threads as conversations that have been started rather than shrines which are under construction... I have actually been asked by people to get out of their thread; at which point I remind them that this is a public forum. That was why I wrote my Hey Hey You You parody. |

I like when all are respectful to another with that in mind you gotta learn to politely comeback. Some hide behid their keyboards like some hide behind the telephone, in areas of rudness and brassness.
