no kidding, I prefer my women to be versatile, understanding, sensitive, and caring. You didn't exactly portray any of those attributes in your posts. You choose the path of belittlement to make yourself feel better. I sincerely hope you learned a valuable lesson from this post, I sure learned a lot about some of my fellow board members

Yeah ... and don't you hate it when all of those English speaking people are talking English in grocery store lineups in Mexico ...

A little tolerance and understanding would go a long way ...

I was in Germany a few years ago -- with another American -- and we went into all kinds of stores and restaurants and lots of other places, and we spoke English the whole time. I think I know about seven words in German, maybe.

Well, as it turned out, almost everybody we ran into spoke English, too, so there was never a communication problem. But I'm wondering now how I would have felt if someone came up to me and said "You're in Germany now, speak German!"

Of course, if they SAID it in German, I wouldn't have understood it anyway, but still....

Everybody was very nice and helpful over there. And even the people who didn't exactly have English mastered, still made a hell of an effort.

if you were a german citizen, i wouldn't think it would be far fetched to expect you to learn the nation's language

if these people are american citizens they obviously do know at least the fundamentals of the english language. Do you know what is involved in the legalization process?

but she doesn't know that they don't know the language. They were a group, talking to each other. Even if they know how to speak English, they are going to be more comfortable speaking their native language. Even if the person in line behind them thinks it's rude.

I'm just urious why someone is so interested in what other people are saying, and why so paranoid about if they are talking about them...like I said...just listen for your name...

i'm sure they're smarter than that, they'd use some other word in place of your name

My question is why would you give a rat's ass if a group of strangers decided to talk about you? And why would you even think that they were talking about you? That seems to be paranoid...like a fox

this is America, its a melting pot, if I could speak another language like Italian or French I would be doing it as often as I can...

and when americans are in another county they probably say the same thing about us..this is Italy, speak Italian damnit....

i agree. but as i pretty much said a couple posts up, it's different for a citizen than a visitor. it's just wrong to expect a culture/country to adapt to you rather than to adapt to that culture/country.

the original point is different than most of the one's that we've made. chatting with a friend is not the same as going to the register and getting mad because they won't speak your foreign language.
