I was trained to identify mental illness so that is about as factual as it gets but look it up, it is there for all to read.

Trained by who? The Social Services Department? So that makes you a certified expert on mental illness? Don't make me laugh.

Actually your tax dollars sent me to an accredited school for it. Aren't you glad???!!!!laugh laugh laugh

are you ignoring that lilth has training as well?

Not discounting her training at all. I had special extra training for this because I was part of an advanced program designed for identifying mentally ill. My training was beyond normal welfare caseworker training. If she had had the extra training she would have identified it herself.

Not saying bad or wrong just stating the facts I know.

have you ever been in the shoes of someone who is mentally ill or depending on welfare?

Sorry missed the factual information. Just conjecture of laziness which is also a sign of mental illness if you look it up. But you have the right to your opinion however unhelpful it may be.

Unlike you... I do not choose to be insulting. Just factual. I do not assume others have no experience or knowledge, but I do find it interesting when they make assumptions with little or no information. About me, about the woman in the article...

I have no need to look up signs of mental illness. I work in mental health.. do you? I don't read blogs or google symptoms to fit into my arguments. I know what I see and see every day. As well as I know what I saw when I was a welfare caseworker. I know my opinions and my experiences. I choose not to assume what yours are. I negate only your assumptions. Not your opinions. I do not state what I think, is a fact.

I think your wanting justification to make "them" less than you at some level and you are not getting that from me. I will not buy into the prejudices surrounding welfare as most of it is racially based and ignorant to begin with.

----I have not seen race mentioned here---

This lady is obviouly not well. People don't do this who are well. So it is obvious. What the problems are, I would have to assess her and find them but I would know just from the information given on the OP that there are issues.

-----My question is this, why allow her to continue to have & raise kids if she is so ill?-----

If you chose not to care, that is your business. I do care for the mentally challenged and fully out and out ill who are undercared for in our society. They show up like she did. Outrageous situations with no obvious reason for it. Sometimes it is more tragic when it shows up but they are all showing need of mental care.

----I care & to me it's at least 1 reason is obvious, she gets away with it. It's working for her.-------

I am sharing my knowledge. People can take it or leave it. I just share that is all I can do. If it enlightens some then good if not then no skin off my nose.

People want to talk about welfare recipients as the scum of the earth and that is wrong. People want to judge them as less then themselves, that is wrong. People do not consider things like mental illness, ill children, family issues, etc... they just jump to judge and it makes them feel superior to others to do it. Some welfare techs are worse than others in their rush to judge.

I will not participate in this. I will continue to bring up the human equality of the issue. Others will do what they want. I will not participate in prejudice towards welfare recipients at all.

The facts are you may have been trained to identify what you think may be symptoms, but you aren't a trained mental health professional. Even the professionals misdiagnose from time to time and you aren't even one of those. You can't diagnose, you can't treat. So you really don't have any room to say the OP is probably mentally ill, because really you have no possible way of knowing that.

dragoness...you haven't addressed most of what i say. why is that?

yellowrose10's photo

even with training...unless someone is in that situation themselves..it's hard to diagnose

why is it today everytime someone does something they have some kind of a mental illness, or we have to blame there parents.

Do you think maybe for once someone can take charge of there own life and say I messed it up all by myself.

its simple I go shoot someone and they die it is murder.

no wait i have 32 outs to get me off the hook
from blaming my parent to the nuns that wacked me in school
if that doesn't work let me say that i was mentally unstable cause my dog bit me yesterday
Oh wait that won't work I can get 32 doctors to march across the stand and say the allergy medicine I was taking made me that way

what the heck call it straight she did what she did you want to give her a crutch to do it again or say step up now and take charge

I agree, caam, but a person who is mentally ill cannot take presonal responsiblity for themselves as they are incapable. I am not giving her a crutch, I am saying if she recieves help first then she will be able to function as a normal contributing member of society. It is obvious she is mentally challenged.

if I am misreading you...please tell me. But you even said most addicts say

She says she made some bad choices like partying drinking yet it is against her religious values to use contraception.

so therefore...since she admits her bad choices but you now say the mentally ill can not take personally responsibility...then she isn't mental ill by your definition

btw...I do know about mental illness first hand as well.

again...i am asking about this

Right on!

My point is that we do not have enough information to diagnose this woman or even say she has mental illness SX. To do otherwise is, frankly... judgmental and wildly assuming.

I have countered your judgments as such... and you respond by saying I act as though I am better than them? You know next to nothing about me. All you know so far is that I did welfare case management and work currently in mental health. I don't claim to diagnose people based on a summary of a news article. You do.

I have no problem helping those that try to help themselves. In some cases yes I DO think I am better because I have integrity & compassion, but I am not stupid! Am I better than this woman? HELL YES! Because I also have a uterus & I chose not to abuse it this way! If we cannot feel "better" for being responsable thae why shouldn't we all behave this way? It's called PRIDE. This is not a bad thing!

going back to the OP's post (mentally ill or not) the cycle HAS begun and the government should say get help or get off. there are programs for help out there

since she is a grandmother already then the women would have had to be 13 when her first child was born for the child to give birth at 18. which would be the parents of the woman's fault for letting a 13 yr old party and get pregnant so much. otherwise it's still a matter of babies giving birth to babies and I am willing to bet the child and grandchild are on welfare as well because of mom and whether dad is or isn't paying child support.

Wow - Dragon displaying *arrogance* in proclaiming herself with omnipotent knowledge on a subject? Say it ain't so!

Good post, Wiley - 100% agreement there. "Mental Health" is more of an educated opinion, than a true science.

Agreed. Maybe one day 20 million years from now, when scientists have figured out how the brain works (if that's even possible lol) it may become a true science but until then, it's mostly speculation and conjecture.

Agreed.
Mental illness cannot be "diagnosed" or even assumed based on a summary of a newspaper article. I hold myself as having knowledge based on experience and training, but I am no diagnostician. And neither is Dragoness. The difference is I admit that.

I mean...without the doctors or people trained as you are...the ones with mental illness wouldn't get help. but like dragoness said (that she has overlooked) until you walk in someones shoes...don't judge

And speaking from experience, I've seen a lot of cases where the cure was sometimes worse than the symptoms. ohwell
