What is the point to getting these beliefs so wide spread? That is the biggest question in my opinion. With sense of a clear motive maybe we can dissect this a little deeper. can you go a little farther with your statement here as to what yur meaning? Its a question. |

Well if we agree it was some kind of snake, perhaps it wasn't but that seems to be the common symbolism depicted today or what we associate it with, here is but one: The Snake Goddess was one of the Minoan divinities associated closely with the snake cult. She is called also Household Goddess due to her attribute of the snake, which is connected with welfare of the Minoan house. But the snake is also symbol of the underworld deity, so the Snake Goddess is related to chthonic aspects too. Two famous faience Snake Goddesses from Knossos belong to the New-Palace period (about 1600 BCE). The reason I pulled up this snake/Goddess association specifically is the date. These snakes had been associated with the Goddess for quite some time prior to the advent of Christianity. This was ancient Crete. An advanced and well established culture by all accounts. This is only one interpretation. You can go in whatever direction you want Tribo. Carry on. http://www.goddessgift.net/images/Goddess%20Minoan%20Snake%20AT-D-82.jpg Thats a visual depiction of her. I'm not going in any direction K, i was just trying to give you something you'd asked about as well as I'm able : "I guess if we are moving on here. I would wonder why it was a snake exactly that was the vehicle of this temptation? What is the significance of the serpent? And why did the snake approach Eve and not Adam instead?" as i say as i looked at it i found what i posted, if i had known you wanted info outside the book then i wouldn't have bothered i can see there is plenty of speculation to go around. so I'll leave it to you and the others to continue in that respect, i can only speak for what the Hebrews or OT and NT say on it i have no other tools to exigis anything else so for me it would be all about taking someone Else's word for what something means and that could be anything. not that they might not be correct, but i have no way of looking into it in depth at the present. sorry With all due respect, How do you justify your beliefs/information without having some knowledge to compare it to? I am not trying to provoke an argument.. I would just like to know if you wouldn't mind sharing. |

"is there logical proof of god?" As opposed to illogical proof of god's existence? Something like the Jesus outline in the tortilla down in Mexico? I just saw this now. I didn't even think about the "twist" in the question. |

Here is a decent site but the Druids were probably a KEY pre-Christian spirituality so your pop was definitely onto something. His instincts were correct. http://www.wildideas.net/cathbad/druid.html thanks for this. Im going to check it out now. |

I see these 2 connections. I am still heavily researching the subject, but does anyone have any thoughts? Serpent>> Paganism "tree of knowledge">> possibly the dodecahedron?? Yes absolutely on the serpent being indicative of Paganism. This can actually be traced directly. It was used as a means of discrediting a much older belief system. That might also stand in line with why Eve was approached by the serpent instead of Adam. The female, who had been associated with the Earth and the ability to create life...something that the boy god was wanting desperately to take credit for...hmmm sir I think you might be having an "a ha!" moment. This older belief system you speak of... any connection to the druids directly? My dad used to research them a lot and I just scratched the surface on them yesterday. Anywhere I can find some "solid" info would be great. |

In the Bible it says that if you repent/get saved/ accept jesus as your saviour (however you want to put it) you will be allowed into heaven and say Jeffrey Dahmer or John Wayne Gayce on his death bed was saved/repented/ accepted Jesus as his saviour is he in heaven? and on the flip side would his victims if not given the chance to be saved/repent/accepted jesus as their saviour are they in hell? God doesn't exist. Eljay wrote: I was talking to God the other day and He told me you don't exist. ROMEO: I dream'd a dream to-night. MERCUTIO: And so did I. ROMEO: Well, what was yours? MERCUTIO: That dreamers often lie. |

The incorporation of what if questions and religion is one of the leading causes to misconception. I would suggest not to fuel the fire of ignorance and misunderstanding.

Yep, you were raised by a preacher alright. Lol. He raised me to question the world and rely on my discernment which have been the most important lessons of my life. He never made me go to church or anything like that. He always pushed to help me find answers instead of giving them to me and me being satisfied. I wish there were more "preachers" like my dad to be honest, but hey where he leaves off I may pick up one day. |

Well I don't believe that this story literally took place. I feel it was written as a way to discredit something else that was already happening and had been taking place for thousands of years. Im not sure if you want me to explain this or not. Are you asking me if I think Adam and Eve were dingbats or mindless automatons? Well, if you believe the story to be factual, then they were created whole, never infants, never children. This would mean that they never had a chance to actually grow into adulthood and learn as you and I were capable of doing. We were permitted to exercise poor judgment and make mistakes throughout our lives and then because of this, we had a chance to learn from our errors and not repeat the behaviors that caused us harm. Adam and Eve not so much. They were custom designed like flat bed trucks special ordered from the factory and they rolled off that assembly line not knowing night from day. No, I look on this entire event and its meaning, a little differently than most I guess. For what it is worth I agree with you. I mean c'mon. Magic apples which contain the knowledge of the world...??? There has to has to be another event from which this story was derived. I have a story that I have been playing around with. (yes even us atheists don't have all the answers lol.) Hear me out for a second.... Ill also keep this short. The snake { "paganism" in my opinion }, is said to have tempted/tricked "us" into eating from the tree of "good and evil/knowledge". In doing so Adam and Eve gained knowledge of the world and started to think. God did not like this. He specifically said for them to avoid this tree........... Now here is where I feel most followers of the Bible sell their soul short without even thinking about it.>>> In the first book of the Bible we hear God pretty much saying, "If you ask questions Your "unfaithfulness" will keep you out of "HIS" heaven forever." If God was secure in his role as the creator of the universe don't you think he would have nothing to hide?? The motive is clear.. (to me at least) The bible and most all religions blatantly exploit the "fear" some individuals place on where their "soul" is going. And in doing so keep the integrity of the faith {at least within the congregation} in tact. Just my opinion, but do carry on about the magic apples..... |

This is truth. Absolute truth. We know this to be true. I grew up in a Free Methodists family. Some of my Uncles were preachers. All of my family were very devout believers and church-goers. So I didn't see a lot of hyprocysy in my imediate family. They did appear to walk the walk of Jesus. However, even so, as sincere as they were they still had disagreements about religious issues. They were never heated arguments, but rather polite intellectual discussions. No disrespect in my generalizations BTW. For me, the truly rude awakening for a believer is quite simple. If they can think objectively at all (which most cannot), all they need to do is look at the book as a non-believer. In other words, abandon their belief for just long enough to ask a serious question: "If you didn't know the Bible was true, would you want it to be true?" This sounds like some hippy dippy new age bs. Opening your mind just makes room for the Devil!! |

But it has been stated that you are not "saved" (or pardoned) unless you accept this sacrifice and give your soul to Jesus and his father and serve them for eternity where you will be "well taken care of ." A lot of people seem to be under the belief that the doctrine actually says this, but they would be hard-pressed to convince me. In fact, according to the Bible it's impossible to "save" yourself. Therefore these Christians who think they have saved themselves by merely accepting Jesus Christ as their savior are in for a rude awakening! Jesus himself said, that there will be many who will claim to know him but he will deny them. So these people who think they have "saved" themsleves simply by accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord better thing again, because he may not have accepted them as his pets. According to the doctrine only he can make that decision. So it's actually absurd for any Christian to claim to have been "saved". They won't know until judgment day, and they just might piss their pants when they discover that Jesus doesn't agree with their assessment. I wonder what they will do then? Will they still claim to love him anyway as they are being cast into the pits of hell? I've heard so many Christians claim that their love for Jesus is unconditional. But why would they love someone who would betray them? All human love is conditional. The only God that truly offers unconditional love is the God described by pantheism. That God (by its very definition) cannot reject anyone. That's just the way it is. That's the way the pantheistic God created creation. So that no one could be lost. Nary a soul. The pantheistic idea of "god" is the only picture of god that I know of that truly represents unconditional love. Any judgmental God puts absolute conditions on its love. You either serve it or suffer dire consequences. Kind of like Hitler was only worse because a judgmental God's wrath is eternal. I say this... like all laws man made I would say that the definition of sin changes through out time to coincide with the general religious consensus. (Killing is good when its in gods name. Imposing on the free will of others is even better when its in gods name.) Living a completely sinful life is extremely hard if not impossible. It was set up for this reason as to always keep you in check. There is even a back door... STRIVE to be sinful and accept jesus and thats good enough. Personally thats bull****. What are all the tests for? why did god allow sin to happen? He didn't. Laws and commandments where instilled to protect the weaker from the hardships of Darwinism. Protecting us from each other. If god really made us imperfect (adam and eve sinned= imperfect design) why would he expect perfection? That doesn't seem like a very realistic expectation. "Sin" is human nature and fighting it does nothing but get people to lose touch with themselves. In my opinion most christians wouldn't go to heaven anyways. Religion is so twisted with hypocrisy we can't even get major religions to agree on all their so called facts. That is why we have different sects within almost every denomination. (my father is a pastor and I went to private schooling all the way up to college, so believe me I know a thing or two.) |

Now this thread is a dumping ground for all your bad thoughts. Type them in and become aware of them. If you can become aware of just what bad thoughts you have and how they make you feel then you can begin to change your thoughts and improve your life. Dump your bad thoughts here and then find some good thoughts that you can replace them with. Good thoughts like: I am irresistible, I am smart, I am creative, I have all I need to accomplish my hearts desire, I can do anything, its a beautiful day, I am so happy to be alive, I am so thankful for my life. etc. So you want to make a "junk yard" of bad thoughts? I'm not trying to in any way discredit you from the good that you are trying to do, but in my opinion bad thoughts power comes from numbers. I fear that if everybody where to collaborate there bad experiences here it will slowly leek into the site itself and so on. Ya feeling me? |
