There is another 600 pound gorilla in the room that nobody seems worth mentioning: the introduction and utilization of Affirmative Action.
I'm not talking about the regular practice of race inclusion. In 1984, there was a comedic movie brought out called Police Academy. In it, the leadership of the area decided to throw out the height, weight, physical conditioning and gender restrictions for acceptance into the academy to show how progressive they were. In it every form of human showed up and were eventually turned into police officers. During the movie, we were all shown how these "screw-ups" and "losers" could eventually pull their weight and saved the day when push came to shove. THIS was the beginning. Yes, I understand that this was just a movie. Nevertheless, this in itself is the real underlying problem. You have people out in the field grossly out of shape or entirely undersized to be able to handle most violent criminals in a one-on-one, or even a two or three-on-one without having to resort to extreme levels of unnecessary violence. More so, it's just not having women on the force that is the issue. There are plenty of undersized, or overweight, men on the force who can't pull their own weight either. https://youtu.be/Ko-ORAXkuN0 https://twitter.com/FreeRangeCritic/status/1233537021341323267 Both of these instances are recent where the officers just weren't able to handle the suspect without using a taser, shooting the suspect or even controlling them once they were handcuffed. Personally, I'd want all of my Police officers to look like Bubba Smith or Richard Kiel. They might not be pretty, but they sure could get a situation under control. Back before the Weather Underground and their ilk of the 60s made it acceptable to target police officers, you could have gotten away with having an all inclusive police force. Back then, the uniform got respect without having a linebacker fill it. Now, you need that linebacker out there to get the respect, whether it be through fear and intimidation or actual approbation. Either way, Sergeant Hooks and Officer Sweetchuck just ain't gonna get the job done today. |

I blame the failure for many of these remakes on a couple of things:
1) Lack of reading: people don't read anymore. Without reading, your imagination gets stifled and doesn't grow. Watching electronic media doesn't activate the same centers of the brain that reading does and thus you can't create new scenarios. 2) The idea that works need "refreshed" or "contain a positive message" for the next generation: It seems an agenda needs to be included in every show, movie, and even book today. You just can't just have entertainment anymore, you have to push something along with it. 3) Reinventing the wheel (AKA I can do it Better): There is a reason why a classic is a classic. Either it's chemistry with the cast/crew/writer/director, the individual talents of one or a combination, unique imagination of the writer...something that makes it a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The new recent trend is to replace male leads with female ones and tell the same story (Ocean's Eight (and why only 8...you couldn't find 11 strong female actresses in the world?), Ghostbusters, etc). Every time, even when they stack the deck and limit release competition, these movies just fall flat. Humankind is NOT unisex...we are not all equal in everything. Just Stop! |

I was having a lot of trouble keeping track of books I've read. In 1992 I started a journal of every book I've read. I have read 397 books since 1992. It should be more. try www.goodreads.com you can keep track of everything you have, read or want to read in their database |

War of the Worlds 2005 A total waste of time. A very good start, really interesting and captivating. It only goes down the drain from there. Way too much emphasise and airtime spent on Tom Cruise's totally obnoxious and unmanageable children. I love my kids and they aren't always easy, but if they were like that I'd leave them behind, haha. Not enough time on the aliens. Another problem: about 80% is flashing lights of some type, and a lot of it. From the aliens, thunder flashes, fires, or unnatural flickering reflections in water caused by the aliens. Not watchable if you have a sensitive head. I've never rated a movie this low: 1 star out of 5. I think about the worst Tom Cruise movie ever. It's the only movie that I've ever seen Cruise play where he isn't the Natural Winner (even though he never loses in this one either) who can do no wrong. I agree, the beginning of the movie was outstanding. The action and suspense were both fabulous and the special effects were top-o'-the-line for 2005. Once they got to the part with the crashed airliner, it just fell apart. |

I read in our local newspaper that George Floyd was once a student at A&M Kingsville which is not too far from where I live. I agree that when something like this happens it gives good cops a bad name . Did you also read about his extensive criminal record? The 46-year-old had left behind his past in Houston after being released from prison stemming from a 2007 robbery. He plead guilty to entering a woman’s home, pointing a gun at her stomach and searching the home for drugs and money, according to court records. Floyd was sentenced to 10 months in jail for having less than one gram of cocaine in a December 2005 arrest. He had previously been sentenced to eight months for the same offense, stemming from an October 2002 arrest. Floyd was arrested in 2002 for criminal trespassing and served 30 days in jail He had another stint for a theft in August 1998. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8366533/George-Floyd-moved-Minneapolis-start-new-life-released-prison-Texas.html |
