On His Own Terms

With great sadness I share that my Dad, Iverge Vernon Allen, Lived his life on his own terms passing quietly in his sleep at home in his own bed Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 at the age of 85. Special Thank You to my online "family" that has offered me compassion and companionship over the many months that Dad took his hospice journey. I appreciate the kindnesses and knowledge that everyone has shown with useful ideas, careing, and empathy in forums, private mail and personal calls and letters. ...Joy Thoughts to you and your family at this time |

Sort of a semi-non-serious thread. I give myself a 5 in looks for being just an average looking man (I hope). I give myself an 8 in personality because I believe there is always room for improvement. So overall I'm about 6, average man. If I had hair I'd be a 10! Anybody else care to put what they think of themselves???? Well, if we're talking about hair, well then id HAVE to be a 10. People always compliment me on that. Looks wise, hmmmm wouldn't really like to rate myself on that one, I don't really think I'm all that. I could have been a little bit more blessed in that department Personality, maybe 7/8. |

Paranormal Activity. Seriously that was ABSOLUTE utter scutter. Their was about 12 of us watching it, even the guys were schitting themselves. Seriously??!! Waste of time..I laughed all the way through at the others reactions. Just recently watched Dark Shadows, that was such a let down. I should have turned it off but I thought it would get better....It didn't. |

I was told about this situation by a couple of people, and this now makes the second person on this site who was not who they alleged to be. I read the news story as well. It really shows you the depth that people will go to in order to gain acceptance and try to deny who they truly are. Who was the first person if you don't mind me asking? Not at all. It was a man I met on here, years ago. He alleged he was in recovery, sober and very sure of himself. We had a brief romance. He died shortly after I found out he lied about most everything he told me. His death was alcohol related. What sickens me was the I had Lex's phone number and I had texted with him over the years. (i used to post in here often) Wow! I honestly don't know what to say. I guess in one way you were lucky it was just a brief thing, things could have been a lot worse. It's a very sad day for a lot of Minglers. He was a friend to a lot of people on here. I'm almost sick to my stomach, I cannot imagine what others on here are feeling. |

I'm shocked and stunned. I can't believe it, like most of you guys I guess. I didn't know him well really, just the odd post here and their, nothing major. It's crazy that in the U.S you guys have access to all this info regarding criminals. Over here, the public DO NOT have any access to any info and we are certainly NOT told if there's offenders in our community. I feel......... You don't have access to the information?! I can get on a site that tells us where they live. All I need to do is to type in my zip code. It's the sensible thing to do before you buy a house. You wouldn't want to raise your children next door to one of them. It's not 100% because they can move and not tell their parole officers though. Nope nothing at all. Their is a Offender's Register as far as I am aware, but from what I've seen online the offender's name is removed after something like 7 years, I'm not too sure but it's something like that. We have no public records or access to any sort of confidential criminal records. The only thing you can do is go to the cops with any queries or worries, but even at that they still have a code of confidentiality and can't disclose any information. I guess it's just completely different over here. An Irish person wouldn't think twice about something like that when buying a house. We would have a certain number of ''cases like this'' but it's a rare thing to happen. We may see it the odd time on the daily news or in the news paper. |

Some of you have a very low opinion of the younger people. How can you judge someone's maturity level based upon their age. Ms Harmony had the right idea on page one of this thread; ''Someone of 23 could have easily obtained a degree at a young age while raising younger siblings their whole life and supported themselves financially''. This is SO true, for me that statement is partially true. What I'm basically saying is that none of you can judge me or people my age JUST based on age. None of you know my story or my ''life experience'' as another person has mentioned. And so, if some of you guys have had bad experiences with younger people then fine stick with people your own age if that's what suits you BUT, please don't paint everyone with the same brush because I can assure you this much, we're NOT all the same. Everyone is DIFFERENT. |

I would like to ask those of you who wish to pray, well wish, whatever that I get a job soon. Thank you! Oh I hear ya! Tell you what, you pray for me and I'll pray for you. Deal? I'm not too bad, I do a lot of voluntary work and some child minding. But I'm waiting patiently for a proper job. |

In Generally Speaking Do you think age really matters a lot? My self i don't think it matters that much , i think as long as a person is Legal age and the 2 people are in love and care for each other, i think its ok ,but i am being optimistic of a favorable outcome in the relationship or friendship , see some have a negative or pessimistic view on the age thing it will never work they say, cause it comes with a pessimistic way of thinking instead of positive way of thinking :) whats your opinion on the age thing? I think its not the AGE , its the maturity, which most often does correlate to AGE some 23 year olds, for instance, may have obtained their degree and helped raise their siblings their whole lives and support themself completely financially other 23 year olds may still live with mom, depend on her for their laundry and meals, not know how to properly fill an application, or how to be professional on a job,,,,, the former type of 23 year old might be a match to a 33 year old single parent, because of matching maturity the latter 23 year old would probably not be a good match unless the 33 year old single parent was similarly 'immature' I think most 23 year olds are more like the first example though,,,personally heck, these days, most thirty year olds are more like the first example,,,, I think you're so right with that answer! I've been living out of home since I was around 17. I got a job, apartment and paid my own way ever since. It was tough going at first, I learned how to stand on my own two feet and not to rely on anyone else, and of course I also learned that nothing in life is handed to you on a plate. It wasn't easy, but you know what I wouldn't change anything. I am always goofing around and having the craic, sometimes a little immaturity is good for the soul. I try not to take life too seriously Oops I forgot to say I don't really have any preferences when it comes to age, I guess it depends on the person really! |
