Topic: On His Own Terms | |
---|---|
With great sadness I share that my Dad, Iverge Vernon Allen, Lived his life on his own terms passing quietly in his sleep at home in his own bed Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 at the age of 85.
Special Thank You to my online "family" that has offered me compassion and companionship over the many months that Dad took his hospice journey. I appreciate the kindnesses and knowledge that everyone has shown with useful ideas, careing, and empathy in forums, private mail and personal calls and letters. ...Joy |

Thanks everyone. Still kind of numb here. Doing the things that you have to do to settle up things and trying to figure out where from here. Probably do some catching up on "stuff" that got put on hold. Hopefully catch up with many of you soon.

thanks again for those who have added. Dad was interned yesterday. Seems like you prepare as much as you can for these moments of life but sure prought me to my knees.
I don't think provideing Hospice at home for a parent is always possible but in our case it was definitely worth the effort. I have done Hospice work for many years and thankfully the resources and support groups have gotten much better at helping families. I was lucky that my Dad was considerate enough to make the effort to give me the tools I needed to do the job. I can't overstate the importance of down loading the simple free forms off your states programs (usually the AMA or Bar Association) so planning ahead and making your wishes known with Durable Power's of Attorney, and Advance Directive, and a Will besides planning for ageing by making the simplest efforts to make the home senior friendly. It certainly makes the system much more user friendly. I don't have the strength right now to do too much but I am willing to share what I learned becasue so many shared with us. I think Mingle is pretty cool so I hpe people will continue to bring people into our community. |
