Communication is dependant on symbolic representation. We would NOT be able to communicate without being able to relate everything we perceive to a symbol. The problem with symbolic communication is that we don't all attach the same meaning to the symbols we associate the communication with.

So here is the question? The answer may consist of several components, including psychological, and philisophical discussion. These are what I'm intersted in.

For your consideration: Religious symbols; why do some "require" their presence on bigger than life scales and constantly on public display?

Could it be to create an air of mystery where there is none? Or to instill fear? Or could it just be so followers could find other followers?

Yeah, I've been a victim of these types of calls. It seems the only time they call is to release all the bad crap. Then I was left with that "heavy" feeling. It really sucked because if I had a lousy day too, I didn't want to lay it on THEM after hearing about their day.
Oh, and then if I tried to interject to be part of the conversation, and share something that was going on with me...somehow they'd turn it back to themselves and made my experience sound silly because "theirs was so much worse." Has that happened to you, too?
I have friends that keep making the same bad choices over and over again and never fail to complain about it. I've learned to just not care, unfortunately. I just half-listen because it's always the same old thing. Now my response is: "Honey, I can't care more about you than you care about yourself."

Yea that is EXACTLY how he is. I can't get 2 words in edgewise. I think I am just going to have to try to explain to him the problem and stop talking with him until he gets it.

There are people that share their light and there are those who just seem to suck the "light" out of us. I DID finally tell my one friend that she was draining me with her negativity. And I DID have to stop talking to her for awhile. We're better now that she got the message. Hope it works for you. Just be honest and ask him: "Does bringing me down somehow improve your sucky day? Because if it does, you're not really my friend."

When people are so willing to complain about a situation they have no intention of rectifying.grumble grumble

And the loss of freedom in this country: Laws that are created to replace common sense choices.
