I used to read about this stuff as a kid. I was more curious than a
"believer"...

I *think* the actual number 666 comes from numerology. Apparently,
every person's full name can be converted into some numeric equilvalent.
So the anti-christ's name (whoever that is) when converted becomes 666
(or the values added up or something).

As for the "mark".. this seems to have many potential explanations. The
most recent theory is RFID tagging. Like tagging every object in our
physical universe with a number so you can track it back to where it
belongs etc. People would also be "tagged" and this is when the "mark
of the beast" stuff started coming out about it...

Should we create a Religion & Politics forum is that just asking for

Maybe we can do something in between that satisfies the group chat itch
but still won't hurt the forums.

Maybe like a conference chat.. so basically it's like instant
messenging, but you can add other people (a conference)..

Whoever starts the conference would have full power to kick people out.

That might be a good compromise.

Anyway, we'll figure it out. We're launching IM first, then we can
decide on how/if to provide group chat.

We're going to be launching a rewards program for people that help
spread the word about our site. We're thinking through it now. Once we
do, you can use special links to get credit for people that come in.

Group chat is cool, a lot of people have asked for it, but there's at
least one main problem I have with it...

As I'm going through the forums today, I'm reading a lot of great posts.
There are some great conversations going on here and lots of very great
content... we have some really smart/wise/cool/funny/nice members...

A problem I see with chat rooms is that a lot of this great content
would be lost. In posts form, they stay. We're even thinking of
allowing users to bookmark/save their favorite topic threads. The
content is valuable, it shoud be saved.

Chat room text is gone after it scrolls off the screen...

Note that I'm not talking about instant messenger, that's one one
communication and for this type of site, it's essential.

I'm just on the fence about chat rooms..

What do you guys think?

"Bad" people is gonnna happen. But, that shouldn't be a reason to not
tell people about the site and grow it.

"Bad" people can be managed. It is better to have that problem and have
a thriving growing community than not.

We are very experienced with online community and how to manage it.
We'll build the right tools so that the "Bad" people do not end up
ruining the community.

YOu are right about chatrooms, that is why we're taking its development
very seriously and making sure it will not make this a place
uncomfortable for folks...

This is a known issue, but not critically bad...

There's is due to our new caching system. The payoff is fast pages and
less load on our database server...

Blocking a user will keep them from sending you messages.

I'm not 100% sure that you will not see them in search results, but I
think so.
