Topic: The problem with group chat....

Group chat is cool, a lot of people have asked for it, but there's at
least one main problem I have with it...

As I'm going through the forums today, I'm reading a lot of great posts.
There are some great conversations going on here and lots of very great
content... we have some really smart/wise/cool/funny/nice members...

A problem I see with chat rooms is that a lot of this great content
would be lost. In posts form, they stay. We're even thinking of
allowing users to bookmark/save their favorite topic threads. The
content is valuable, it shoud be saved.

Chat room text is gone after it scrolls off the screen...

Note that I'm not talking about instant messenger, that's one one
communication and for this type of site, it's essential.

I'm just on the fence about chat rooms..

What do you guys think?

I like things the way they are. I can send a poem or whatever to a
friend to share it with them, with chat I couldn't do that.

I think you are totaly right

but if ther is a topic for each chat room that will be similar to what
we have.

even thoe i agree with yo on the subject of the goog content of the
topics the site already has and is a great idea to be able to save your
favorite post.

that is cool

i have never liked random chat rooms for the reason that you have
mentioned. to me a chat room is more of a meeting place for a large
group of people but it doesn't seem like any real discussions ever take
place. i like the way the forums operate but i think some consideration
should be given to adding a search so that they stay somewhat organized.
the current forum format with IM and some other features you discussed
would make this a very active place.
btw, thanks for the new section on current events. i think the forums
are beginning to be easier to navigate.

I'm all for it, if you could save it. My only problem is not being on my
pc enough to check things before they would disappear. I wouldn't want
to miss anything.

I like the forums better too...because you really can't miss out on any
conversations you might be interested in..even from a week or more ago
lol.
That was one of my concerns with group chat too, was that it might kill
the forums and I look forward to coming here at the beginning and end of
my day to see who said what.

Me too. And I would be really disappointed if I were to miss a poem,
funny joke or whatever. I look forward to reading the newest stuff sent
in. I vote no chat. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

I agree is true
you can come back at anytime and continue where you left off, and if
you don''t have time you can always answer a message later.
is all good

what is that, a new session on current events?

I like the thought of group chat bu you have stated some valid reasons
against it Vanchau. If anything there are plenty of chat rooms out
there, people could always decide on one and just meet there, also
spread the word of the site in that chat room. Just a thought. I do
enjoy the forums and would hate to lose them and the quality of the
posting thats happening in them.

I do have some concerns about IM as well.Perhaps we should start another
thread about IM, voicing the pros and cons of it, concerns etc.

Yeah you right Vanchau, I like how this is because most sites that I
have seen. People lose site of what this is doing for us right now.
Either the message board room dies or it becomes nuthing but a chat
room. And I would hate that.

I have to agree. Chats are very temporary and tend to entertain a very
few people. The posts here are here for a long time and remain based on
their merit.
There are many places that offer chat capabilities and I'm sure that
small groups from here could find a place to chat if they are so
inclined.
I used to belong to a dating site and at any given time there were 1500
to 2000 people online and the most people I had ever seen in the group
chat was maybe 30 people. Usually, it was more like 10 to 15.
The forums actually give you the capability to communicate with many
more people than chat, just without the immediacy.
There have been some very intense and provocative discussions in the
forums here. That is something you rarely see in chat rooms.

Well darn since ya put it that way I have to agree too its just a hassle
having to go back and forth to see if a new post was done since ya have
to refresh to find out. Okay so I'm lazy in that sense lmao Cause I do
like to be able to go back on a topic an see how it all started and the
answers others have given. There I back track from wanting the open
chat rooms. But hey why cant I have my cake and eat it too and have both
lmao

That's a point... many forums have codes to show threads that have new
posts since you last read them.. and a quote function would help keep up
to speed on what's happened so far in the thread.

This is one of many free sites out there today. I enjoy this site more
then the others sites. And it has not been for the dates or hooking. I
guess that I keep coming back to see what was said in each forum and
topics. There is some very good content to read a long with some within
the B-shit topic. If you add a chat room, I think, you would be come
more appealing to an even younger crowd of users. I t seams to me, that
most off these dating site chat rooms are consumed by 16 years old and
younger. There are some people that are unable to stay at there computer
screen all the time so we would not be able to in joy the site as much
if these things weren’t saved in the forums. Improvements should be made
in advertising this site more to make it a better dating site. I get
many more dates off the other site like. The Fish site.opps sorry if I
am not supposed to mention it. But I do leave post mentioning this site
there all the time. In hopes to make a better Just Say Hi web site.
You need to display more possible matches than you are presently due.
Thanks for asking.

well, it would be nice to have as an option. I don't think that it's
gonna kill the discussions in the forums...but what if it's 2 am and you
just wanna BS with someone???

i don't like chatrooms but i don't have anything against them either.
i've seen a couple people on here at 3am and they start a random thread
in the forum just so they don't have to keep mailing each other and it
is there so that anyone just logging on knows that there are other
people here if they'd like to chat. i think it's a good idea and it
helps people get familiar with each other. i think that one of the
biggest problems that people have on dating sites is that people aren't
familiar to them. i think chat rooms help but i think the forums are
better because they usually require more indepth answers.
