He's still to young to understand
Is what I think as I dial the phone
I say I'm going to miss his 11th birthday
and thanksgiving with him too
both on the same day this year

I explain great gramp needs me here
that his vision is failing him
he needs someone to give him a hand
there's no one here but me

The tears on my face flow
as I listen to his words
He tells me it's OK another day will do
tells me he'd do the same

Why would you think I wouldn't understand
he demands to know
I'm picturing his head cocked to one side
as he is so prone to do
I smile and then laugh
say I'm just glad that you do
cause there's not a dam thing I can do

I change the subject to him
he changes it back to gramp
now my heart is lighter
and filled to all it can hold
proud of the boy in his youth
a glimpse of the man of tomorrow
I smile and am ever so grateful
that for him-there's not a dam thing I need to do...

I disagree about the rough and amateurish. I thought it was just wonderful, I could picture the morning...

I think with the holidays coming we are all thinking of those that can't be with us. I myself am remembering a few days of berry picking and ice cream.. Happy thoughts help I think, so think of the happy days.
