...is there anyone out there who DOES NOT turn to look down at it on impulse?  Is this some knee-jerk reaction, left over from our primitive ancestors, when no doctors were available? Is this a primitive attempt to gauge our health?  I know cats check their stuff out pretty good. Dogs just ignore it, and scratch dirt over it.  BE HONEST: WHO DOES LOOK BACK AT IT? WHO DOESN'T?  ...AND WHO'S TELLING A BOLD-FACED LIE???  MORE IMPORTANTLY, IS THIS NOT THE VERY BEST TOPIC OF ALL TIME, HERE ON MINGLE2??? We here in the US worship youth and beauty...rarely wisdom which comes with gray hair.
One can only stand aside and watch, as the young sally forth into the same mistakes those older and wiser than they had made twenty or more years prior. To be "old" is to be ignored by the young. We adore many so-called "celebrities" who have little or no talent at all, other than for getting themselves into trouble, and/or making an a** of themselves on a grandiose scale. The animated feature "Shrek" (mainly the first one, when he met Fiona), is such an excellent example of this very topic.
Shrek lived in a swamp, in his tiny, little shack. He actually thought he was content...and, maybe he WAS. Until... ...MEETING FIONA SHOWED HIM THERE IS SO MUCH MORE! I've lived in the same state all my life. Now, here at almost 50 (ouch!), I wonder what might have happened had I moved somewhere else early in life, to surround myself with a different kind of people, who had a different way of thinking. Just how much would it have changed me? For better, or for worse? I met someone not long ago who lives, I believe, in a paradise. I wonder what it might have been like to live there. We here in the south tend to live not very far from our other relatives. The concept of hopping on a plane once a year to be with relatives thousands of miles away for Christmas seems very odd to us. There are many advantages to that, yet there is also a steep price to pay. |
