I know,I was one. Honest truth here no judgement just truth. They have a major issue with the deity of Jesus. They consider Him to be a created being like everyone else except God. Yet the N.T. tells us differently. Their version of the gospels have subtle changes in the text so that it doesn't conflict with what they believe. The Gospel of John is a major problem for them because it clearly states: 1-In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2-He was with God in the beginning. 3-Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4-In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5-The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it. Also: 14-The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. They can't comprehend the full nature of God so they try to limit his abilities to suit them. As far as the blood issue is concerned, God forbade the Israelite's from drinking blood in the O.T. & I think they carried their concern over protecting blood forward from there. It's an unfortunate belief because of the needless deaths that have occurred due to a lack of blood transfusions. The only "144,000 are going to heaven" is a total misinterpretation of the text. It clearly says in the Book of Revelation, that the 144,000 are going to be virgin male Hebrews. No J-W is a Hebrew. They think the New Earth will be the desired place to be, when before leaving this world Jesus said He was going back to Heaven to prepare a place for us. Jesus wants us to dwell with Him in His presence, in His Father's house. No one BUT the J-W's translate the verses from John the way you referenced. Playing around with the subtleties of the text like that leads to eternal consequences of punishment. Merely having faith means nothing as far as salvation is concerned. Just what do they have faith in? I know that they place their faith in a small "g" god, whereas, I place my faith in a big "G" God. Meaning, if Jesus isn't God, how could He accept the sins of the world & be found to be The perfect sacrifice. Nothing less than Gos could accomplish this. My question to you, if you had the choice wouldn't you want to place your trust in the creator God for the gift of salvation or a created god? The former is the true Redeemer, the latter is a mere imitation that leads many astray. The 144,000 reference. You have to look in 2 different places in the book of Revelation for the answer. Chap 7 & 14. Here they are: 1-After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. 2-Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: 3-"Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God." 4-Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. 5-From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of Gad 12,000, 6-from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000, 7-from the tribe of Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of Issachar 12,000, 8-from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000. And Chap 14: 1-Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. 2-And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3-And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4-These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5-No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless. Unlike some, I actually don't write something unless I know what I'm talking about. I also double check myself before posting. |

it's not an idol if you dont worship it... there's no sin in using things to remind us of the one who did die for us... just because Constantine misused the cross doesn't mean we should throw it out an ignore it... lots of facts, but nothing really showing we shouldn't wear the cross to me... Would you wear a Swatsika because it is a form of the cross in Europe..Shalom...Miles Unfortunately as you have so rightly pointed out that a number of originally intended for good symbols, were instead used for evil. It doesn't mean that wearing a cross is celebrating that evil perpetuated but rather, as others have written, that it serves as a reminder of the cruel death suffered for my sake. And no, I wouldn't wear a swastika out of respect for our Jewish brothers, not only for because of the evil reminder that it is but also because it originated in pagan cultures. |

I am a reformed old time rock & roll music freak. To satisfy that need for something up tempo I have found that a number of modern Christian rock bands are just great. They have a great message, ministry & music. Don't get me wrong, I love the songs in the hymnals & would never suggest replacing them with the modern rock style. I think there is a time & place for both.
So, I wanted to start posting links of video performances from a number of these artist for your enjoyment & comments. Please, jump in with you own contributions. I wanted to start off with 1 of my favorite groups from Oregon, Kutless. They write very powerful lyrics & instrumentals. I have had the joy of seeing them twice in concert. Some may know them from their song "Sea of Faces". Let me know what you think. The 1st is "Run". It's written as a plea from God. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ppxQF95sYo The 2nd is "Strong Tower", just a great worship song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fe-qoF6WV0 |

I'm a Christian, and I mess up way more than I'd really like to admit. However, I'm always striving to get better, and I know I've still got a long way to go. The worst thing about what that minister is doing is that it starts to make others (especially non-believers or those whose faith is not very strong yet) begin to doubt the validity of the one whose Name we Christians have taken. It's gotten bad enough that I've begun to give people this one piece of advice: "Be careful about letting Christians influence your opinion of Christ." He should be evaluated on His own, without regard to any of His followers who might not really be doing a great job of following Him. Agreed!! Focus on the Redeemer, not the redeemed. |

Perhaps not popular compared to the garbage that passes for today's music (by and large), but one must remember, his heyday, both as a solo artist as well as a duo with his wife, Mary Ford, was back in the '40's and early '50's, and his musical style was quite ahead of its time for that era. 'Popular' music didnt really begin until the late 50's. Much of the music before that time, doesnt really appeal to the ear of most people. Les Paul's music hasnt dated all that well, in my opinion. It sounds old, even though it may have been ahead of its time, at the time. I find it hard to properly appreciate. I find myself wanting to like it, and trying to acquire the taste for it, but it just doesn't really cut the mustard with me. I find myself appreciating the skill in his playing, but not in the end result of the whole song. Thats not to take anything away from Les. He is a legend. But for the most part he is probably going to be one of the unsung heroes. I think that's a point well taken. Music is so subjective it's difficult to "make" someone else like the same styles as you do. It either trips your trigger or it doesn't. At least you appreciate his innovations & cutting edge approach to wanting to expand the electric guitar's capabilities. |

The Night of the Iguana Poem from Night of the Iguana How calmly does the olive branch Observe the sky begin to blanch Without a cry, without a prayer With no betrayal of despair Some time while light obscures the tree The zenith of its life will be Gone past forever And from thence A second history will commence A chronicle no longer gold A bargaining with mist and mold And finally the broken stem The plummeting to earth, and then And intercourse not well designed For beings of a golden kind Whose native green must arch above The earth's obscene corrupting love And still the ripe fruit and the branch Observe the sky begin to blanch Without a cry, without a prayer With no betrayal of despair Oh courage! Could you not as well Select a second place to dwell Not only in that golden tree But in the frightened heart of me Awesome movie. Should be on everyone's must watch list. |

I agree with your original post & haven't posted anything about his passing because it appeared to me that a number were already doing that in another thread.
I think his passing is hardly noticed by the "masses" in general because his music wasn't being played on any top "20" (remember when it used to be 40?) music rotations. His music was 1 you had to purposefully search for. And these days anything that isn't immediately in your face, most don't know about or even want to care about it. As you already said, his technical innovations were amazing and cutting edge. If not for his multi-track pioneer work, The Beach Boys, "Good Vibrations", as released, would not have been possible. How about a performance by Les with 1 of his inventions? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foXSXOAfB4U |
