I am a reformed old time rock & roll music freak. To satisfy that need for something up tempo I have found that a number of modern Christian rock bands are just great. They have a great message, ministry & music. Don't get me wrong, I love the songs in the hymnals & would never suggest replacing them with the modern rock style. I think there is a time & place for both.
So, I wanted to start posting links of video performances from a number of these artist for your enjoyment & comments. Please, jump in with you own contributions. I wanted to start off with 1 of my favorite groups from Oregon, Kutless. They write very powerful lyrics & instrumentals. I have had the joy of seeing them twice in concert. Some may know them from their song "Sea of Faces". Let me know what you think. The 1st is "Run". It's written as a plea from God. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ppxQF95sYo The 2nd is "Strong Tower", just a great worship song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fe-qoF6WV0 |

Here's a hip-hop group Grits that's a lot of fun in concert. Checkout these videos.
The 1st is "Here We Go" http://mingle2.com/topic/reply/241402 The 2nd is "Hittin' Curves" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz3Ku6uEAtk |

Here's another by FLAME featuring Lecrae & John Reilly called
"Joyful Noise". I really like this 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MllhC0qyEjY |

How about something a little on the "heavy" side?
Seventh Day Slumber - "Surrender" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R43PaCDKnhY And from the "metal" side of the house. Demon Hunter - "Carry Me Down" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD2t1qLJGLQ |

Demon Hunter is a great band, but with some young people their songs bring great conviction. it can be really depressing to hear some of their material if you read into their lyrics.

Read the lyrics of beauty through the eyes of a predator. It's basically about being given into a reprobate mindset. I play dead is a haunting song as well.

I now see where your coming from. I did checkout those lyrics & you're right, if you're not in the right frame of mind, some of their songs can be quite disturbing. Thanks for the comments. You are the 1st to post a comment about the songs. I've had some hits but no comment save yours. Makes me wonder what's on the minds of those out there. |

I dont know what it is, but any and all, new old, upbeat, contemporary, rock, rap, neuvo, "edgy" christan music just all sounds so gay to me. It all sucks imo.
No offense. |

That's your opinion, but I don't think there is anything "gay" about having beliefs. Even secular artists have thrown in personal hints to their own beliefs, even in metal (for example System of a Down's Forest) if you think that believing in something and making music based upon somehow sucks, then it's your problem, but remember that almost all music is written based on someone's view of their world. |

Yes.. It IS my opinion obviously. Noone said its gay to have beliefs. I myself am Catholic. I still think 99% of christian music sounds gay. You assume ALOT. I never stated anything you are saying, and you are taking what I said out of context. I dont care who has Christian music, Im not into it. |

earthlytaurus76.. hi there.. your comments i find rather interesting.. why exactly do you find 99% of Christian music gay..? What exactly makes them gay..? Don't misunderstand.., I'm not having a go at you.. Just would love to understand your view point , and why you feel as such.. As a lot of Christian music today has gone long ways from the early cheesy ned flanders stuff.. I find today's Christian music very relevant.., especially when God's hand can and does touch soo many hurting, hopeless, and hurting people out there through it.. I as a muso myself have seen God minister to people through so powerfully, and it's so amazing to be a part of.. I've been around music for a very long time, and i love a large variety of music.., i think the quality is up to par with the world music if not better in a lot of cases.. Why? Because Christian music (and i only speak of which, has God's Word as foundation of it all), has power, healing and hope.., not pointless words that come out of a bitter, angry, spiteful, lustful, love deprived, broken and hopeless heart.. As the bible says " as a man sows, that he shall reap".. It goes with music too.. Not to sound super spiritual, however.., the kind of music we sow into our spirits will have a huge effect on how think, feel, handle life issues, and even look at our amazing God.. Just look what music has done to youth of today compared to youth 10-20 years ago... No one cares anymore... No one has any hope.. So as a fellow christian can you elaborate a bit.. thanks heaps..

I didnt say they were gay, I said THEY SOUND gay. Ive heard todays christian music. I find alot of other music relevant, and no I cant relate to the way these people sing.. no I dont think of God in the same way.. NO I definitely dont TALK to God the way I hear these people do in songs. I dont think all other music is neg, or uninspiring. I also quite enjoy others stories of pain and tribulation, and no it doesnt have to be christian. I dont find christian music uplifting, I find it a chore to listen to.. because it bores me to no end, and is just.. weak, and gay sounding imo. |

Are you into lispy, feminine men? Im not going into a huge explanation for you. I dont have to answer your question at all, let alone in detail. Im not here to be recruited, accept it, and move on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leohcvmf8kM |

Demon Hunter - "Carry Me Down" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD2t1qLJGLQ These are pretty good too if you like the "heavy" side. By Disciple: God of Elijah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzLLbjyoiyo Not Rock Stars http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJbKmGtIexA By God http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW9DGYxrhH8 Worth it All http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VceheBHSZMU Plenty more years of great music & songs w/awesome lyrics but that's all I'll post by them for now. But I gotta post one more just cause Tom deserves major kudos for the music he writes, performs, and even though he's touched so many, he's humble enough to not produce his tunes en masse for profit/personal gain. ...And...just cause Tom Rocks too! This is called "Lovesick Warrior" and is an original by Tom Cellie. If you like his music you can find other things he has done on www.sonraycafe.com or his personal youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zsz744t7DY Enjoy!! |

PS: Anyone who loves Disciple is OK with me. I absolutely love God of Elijah. I have seen Disciple twice & have had a chance to chat with Kevin the lead singer & members of the band. Kevin is definitely on fire for the Lord. I have the same sense from Skillet & Spoken. Speaking of them, how about I post some links? 1st up Skillet- "Savior" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHzIJEesUPI Next Spoken- "Falling Further" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFmvewW2leI Some Thousand Foot Krutch- "Breathe You In" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXfK_LObXAA And finally Superchick- "Stand in the Rain" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2naYghOqM0s I hope you like these as much as I do. tf73 |
