When you are dating someone and you have a bad day you would certainly hope your boyfriend or girlfriend would be sympathetic to that, but what if you are having a major problem at work or with your family? How would you feel if your partner did not respond in a sympathetic manner? Could this be a deal-breaker in your relationship?

I think it would depend, are they trying to help by giving a reality check with the situation at hand? Sometimes that seems unsympathetic but is helpful.....

It really depends. Some people are hooked on drama and have "problems" all the time. I have no sympathy whatsoever for such people. But then, I don't spend time with people who can't get over themselves. If it was a person who was not prone to daily/weekly "problems", then yes, I would think it would be important to be supportive.

I think your sig other should be there for you no matter what. if you are a drama seeker they should also tell you that and help you work through it

I don't think it's the sig's responsibility to cure you of your habits. I think if you are a drama seeker you need to accept that people aren't there to indulge you.

Emotional support IS important, but not a deal breaker unless the lack of it happens all the time.

My opinion is that emotional support is the foundation of a healthy relationship.

Emotional support is important but so are many other things in a relationship

In my opinion if there isn't any emotional support then there isn't a relationship. Hard part was learning that it works both ways.

If it was an ongoing problem, yes, it could be a deal-breaker. Once in awhile, there are going to be communication gaps. When it turns into a regular occurrence, there's something wrong.

Well it is impotant. You have to learn how to give inorder to receive.

No. I expect people to NOT always have sympathy. I would rather them feel for me then be like that, but I would understand. Relationships are about sacrifices and getting to know each other, and if the other person didn't feel like having sympathy I would understand.
