Here's a listing on per capita hungun crimes. Their info comes from UN stats. A credible source I would think. US is #8 on the hit parade and Canada is #20. http://www.scribd.com/doc/21670/Crime-Statistics-Murders Crime rate with handguns has climbed in Canada. Largely due to weapons being brought in from the US. Now for the reverse argument. I read years ago about a town in Georgia that made it a municipal by-law for all homeowners / renters who could legally have a weapon to have one. They were even issuing handguns to population. ***Note: Not so strictly enforced that if you don't like handguns one is forced on you.**** Crime rate went down to negligible levels in town. Criminals knew they were out-gunned. Courses on gun safety were also given to citizens. #20??? Do you realize, of course you do, that Canada (the whole country) has a population about the size of 2 major US cities? Those fiqures must be per capita..... |

I do not want to be part of a bloody coupe unless it is absolutely neccessary |

The number of crimes in which a handgun was used in England and Wales has risen from 299 in 1995 to 1,024 last year. Offenses committed with all types of firearms, including air guns, have also increased. That's an increase of 725 gun crimes in 11 years, a 242 percent increase. Britain already had strict gun control before the 1996 Dunblane, Scotland, school shooting, and in 1997 both Conservative and Labour governments pushed through fresh gun control legislation banning small caliber handguns. http://newsbusters.org/node/12267 because the ***people*** are not armed |
