So, by this definition of "infringment" felons should be allowed guns too? How about people with severe mental illness who can't comprehend the danger of firearms? I haven't heard anything about banning guns, only regulating guns;^]

all i can say is this, those in the military have taken an oath to defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. If the government tries to disban firearms there will be a big mess as servicemen will be obligated to tell them all to kick rocks. My problem is they will do it slowly. Limiting your ability to buy them little by little as they have been doing. This, by definition, is an infringement of our right to keep and bear arms. There really is no argument to what they mentioned in the constitution. There are just being trying to twist words in their favor. Hopefully there will be no further firearm restrictions. But you all know and i know there will be.

just look at the black market,u can get any thing if u have the money, guns, money, power and greed are gonna be what kills this world

a bit ago i was offered a full auto pistol. no sneaky dealings by me or a shady blackmarket dealer, just a crackhead who was looking for some cash.

limiting legal residents would have no effect on that instance. why? because for most folks, full auto fire arms aren't legal.

it has been said there are to many guns in the world

well maybe there are

but look around the world

most of the worst violence is in countries where the
run if the mill person does not own/afford a gun

the criminal does not care about cost
they steal what they need
and brutalize those not able to protect themselves

so those of you that do not think a gun will help
that is fine then do not get one

but do not think you have the right
to take them away from those that do

after all when they start enforcing the provisions of the patriot act on you there is a slim possibility
you may remember this thread

after all the wire tapes permitted by the patriot act
is what brought down the governor of new york
i doubt if he was on the terrorist watch list

i have a few guns, none of which have killed ANYTHING.

ok....I'm confused....why ban the guns from the good guys???

disarmed public = servants

i believe everyone should voice their opinions

BUT i will use a gun, knife, whatever i can to protect myself an family from danger. if it comes down to me or the attacker...it won't be me if i can help it

and that's just it, the same can be said for a "bad guy". if they have negative intentions, they'll use whatever they can. it's not like people don't get stabbed or beat

yes, they are to protect the constitution and the principles this country is founded on.. but what about when our gov violates that? they're all government property

So, by this definition of "infringment" felons should be allowed guns too? How about people with severe mental illness who can't comprehend the danger of firearms? I haven't heard anything about banning guns, only regulating guns;^]

they've been slowly banning guns for years...

and in certain places, like dc and i believe ny, it's illegal to own a gun.

Wierd, I have family in both places who own guns legaly. I still haven't seen any actual "banning" of guns, only regulations which are a good thing. So, should just anybody, including those I mentioned be allowed guns? Should we let 5 year olds have their own guns? Hmmmmm;^]

Maybe some of these anti gun regulation people should keep it real, hand guns aren't the only types of guns. Not that I'm completly for a ban on hand guns, but it's a big differance between banning hand guns and guns in general;^]

a child should be able to own a gun, maybe not have constant access though.

what's most important is that responsibility is instilled in the child

-gun is not a toy
-don't point it at anything you don't want to kill
-always treat every one as if it is loaded

hand guns aren't the only type, true. but illegal hand guns are those most often used. and you know they're not legal hand guns, since a criminal isn't going to register their weapon and wait 2 weeks to recieve it

Yes, but do you expect a 5 year old to understand the consequences? The only way I support a child having a gun is in the case where the gun is their guardians & the child only have access under their strict supervision. But still, what about felons and people with severe mental illness? Surely you guys must believe in some sort of regulation;^]

i recieved my first .22 at 5. it was always kept away from me, but i was able to shoot it from time to time.

felons, wouldn't that all depend on the crime?

mental illness? that's a tricky one, how can you tell if they haven't already had some help or something

I know they have them already, most of the folks though want to do away with regulations, I'm saying we need those regulations. There are no bans on guns in general in the USA, only regulations.

@toasted: Notice I said SEVERE mental illness, IE one without the capacity to comprehend the consequences or one too far gone to care;^]

metal illness: a doctor would diagnose that. but alot of people won't see a doctor

felons: they give up those rights when they commit the crime

i think they are trying to do away with guns not the regulations

Who's trying to do away with guns in general? That's only something claimed by the republican smear machine to win against the democrats. I have yet to hear any american politician say we need to ban all firearms;^]

I know this, but it's all relevant because it still comes back to regulations since there is no ban on guns as a whole. Banning handguns is a regulation;^]
