I know thisll kill any chance of me meeting anyone here but things arent looking that great anyways so.

say a girl started hitting me, and in defence I hit her back, could I go to jail?! I know people are all like, OMG!!. males should hit females. I didnt, but if I wanted to... would it be against the law??

Speaking as another one who will never meet anybody here (!), I would say there are a lot of variables involved. While it's true that the court system and society in general are getting somewhat more comfortable with the "Battered Husband" phenomena, there is still a bias in favor of women in any domestic violence situation; and there are good reasons for this (which I won't get into here, because anyone with any background in the subject already knows them).

A self-defense claim, if true, is certainly something that may
keep you out of trouble in that scenario, but the problem is you need to have some credibility going in. Past reports of her hitting people, witnesses, maybe she had prior counseling, anger management, that sort of thing.

Otherwise, if it's just a first-time case, your word against hers, no proof either way, you'd be better off just getting the hell out of there and never turning back! Because, even if you "win," you're not "winning" that one. Let it go. If it takes you being hit a few times to wake up to the fact that there's an inherent incompatibility in the realtionship, OK, let it go. Next time, there might be a gun involved. It escalates, and then, where do you end up?

As far as I'm concerned, nobody has any business hitting anybody. I see that, I'm gone.

i kow a girl that would corner her husband and beat him. he should defend himself but only to the point of getting away from the abuse. the husband only pushed her back to leave the house but he was arrested because he was a man. nobody has a right to assault anyone...man or woman

i dont think you would go to jail if you only gave her a slap across the face and she didnt need any hospital treatment,if you caused her bad injuries then you could go to jail, you would be done for assualt.

Why would he slap her at all? Unless she was big enough to hurt him, the only reason to hit her at all would be payback... A bigger man would walk away... I mean if she was Chynna and could kick his butt then maybe but other than that no reason to hit or slap back...

ive been slapped and hit by exes, its a common thing. when my sister was pregnant, her ex kicked her in the tummy. she always had bruises on here, men who hit women arnt real MEN, there just pathetic.

keep in mind the law could say one thing and the local cops another.

Keep in mind, my brothers ex girlfriend knocked him completely on his ass (and he is a big guy to begin with), unprovoked in the middle of a verbal argument. She had a knife on her which he took away from her when he got back up. She swung again, and he hit her once, in order to be able to step away and avoid her (she would not let him walk away). This was all witnessed by several people.

Michigan's law states she is at fault for assault, he was defending himself. However the police completely ignored the witnesses and all the proof and everything and threatened my brother with jail time for assaulting her.

Just because the law says one thing, doesn't mean it is upheld by those paid to uphold it. And before some wise-ass comes on and suggests anything, no my brother has not had any other issues before or after this incident with the police (other than a couple car accidents). For all intents and purposes the police did not even know he existed prior to this instance.

With that said, here is the basis I follow, whether it be man woman, teenager whatever. No matter what is done to you, walk away and call the cops if at all possible. If you can not walk away, do not do anything more than minimally neccessary to break away, the walk away and call the cops. in other words, if all you need to do to get away is is push the person to the side, then that is all you do. Most places, you can get away with a single push or swing if you immediately leave afterwards, as it shows you did not intend any harm to the other person, you were simply trying to get away.

The most important thing here is to remove yourself from the situation as soon as possible with the least amount of contact possible, and call the cops immediately.

Well, as we said no one should hit anyone... However, I am not against a swat on the hand or bottom if a child needs it... but we live in a different world now.. where we used to get swatted or the switch, the Spock theory is it only teaches aggressiveness.. I agree to a point but I also see how different kids are now and they probably could have used a switch on the behind... There's a difference between beating a child and disciplining a child.. The corner and talking doesn't always work... jmho
