Topic: Ever lost a fingernail? | |
---|---|
I don’t mean in the female “I broke a nail!” sense. Here’s my situation: About a month or so ago I was at work and ended up dropping a 150lb steel bottle of argon on my index finger, which was crushed between the bottle and the steel floor. The tip of my finger was shattered into 5 fun little pieces, which are pretty much healed now, but the doc said I was gonna lose my fingernail. So it started coming off, and even though it hurt like hell, I helped it along a bit by prying the nail up and clipping off the pieces with a pair of nail clippers. Now I have half a fingernail, and the new nail underneath looks just disgusting. In april though, I am flying from Virginia to Cali to meet someone (from here ), and I’m kind of self conscience of my nasty little mutant nail. does anyone know how long it takes for nail to heal? Does anyone think that it should look fine by then? I know she isn’t gonna give a damn how it looks, but still, I’d rather not have this little freak of a nail when I’m 1st meeting someone lol Any help folks? |

Well, I know that my thumbnail was ripped off by my dog when she bit me...
It looked pretty disgusting for quite a while. I don't really know if YOURS will be completely healed and back to normal by April, but it should look a lot better, I'd think. Don't worry about it... or if you have to, just wear a bandaid over it! |

It is growing back strange because the nail bed that creates the nail was damaged. Once it grows completely back, the new nail should eventually start to grown in normal again and you can slowly trim the mutant nail away. That can vary from person to person based on both how severe the damage to the nail bed was and how long your nails normally take to grow.
I've known many people to lose nails. Growing up around loggers, road builders, and people in other aspects of the timber industry, miners, and dam builders. Hunter/fishermen and various aspects of the outdoor lifestyle. I've never known it to take a year. If it was that badly damaged, then it might always grow funny. |

It takes about 6 months. I lost a toenail once..gross and it hurt like heck. I'd put neosporin on and keep it covered.

I think it takes like a year. I lost one when I was younger, cracked in half and one of the halfs came off. just make sure to keep it covered and use neosporn(sp?) like mentioned before, so it doesnt grow inverted or whatever the term for a hang nail is.

The best advice I can give you is to be you! Your nail will grow back it just takes time. If this girl likes you, your nail will be the last thing on her mind. If your that uncomfortable wear a Band-Aid and if she asks tell her the truth but, don't mention the nail growth.

Don't mean to hijack the threat, but Frescor, I couldn't send you a message. I love that picture, and your profile said you dance and sew. I was wondering if you belly danced or if you made it. Of course, it just could be a picture you liked. But I wanted to ask.

My rifle slammed my thumb in Guard and ripped my thumb nail in half...It healed somewhat before I went to Texas to meet Mike. I went and had solar nails put on, did not want to meet my future hubby with knarly nails....Maybe try a band-aid with some neosporin to help it heal faster and warm sea salt soaks....
