If there is something the history of this world's religious literature shows, it's that values and principles change over time. Even within his own lifetime, an author normally undergoes notable changes in his system of values. His writings reflect his ideas and thoughts according to his stage in life. It's interesting to note how different his ideas are as a young man compared to when he grows old. This pattern is common and well-known.

Yet when the Bible is analyzed in this way, we find it is strikingly different. Although its books were written by about 40 authors spanning some 1,500 years, they all maintain an amazing consistency. From Genesis to Revelation, the major themes never change. History progresses, but the themes of love, faith, obedience, mercy and a loving and righteous God intent on redeeming a disobedient mankind do not change. This unity of thought and principles is unique in the world's literary history.

A "disobedient" mankind?

If values had not changed throughout the Bible, they would still be stoning adulteresses, burning witches at the stake, and tossing people to the lions for petty crimes.

If there were anything to the idea of "free will" there would be no rules to "disobey."

I believe that the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster covers all this...

Really.

Thank God the unchanging God of the Bible did change.

Maybe God went to see a Zen Buddhist Monk between the OT and NT. laugh

In the Bible:

Jesus told us to "honor thy father and mother." (Mat. 15:4) but contradicted his own teaching in Luke 14:26 when he said:

"If any man come to me an hate not his father and mother .. he cannot be my disciple."

There are hundreds of contradictions in the Bible that do not make sense to the person who is trying to take its literal meaning.

But the above mind set is the same taught in brain washing cults. The members are taught to reject and even "hate" their parents.

Was Jesus (whoever he was) operating a cult?

Any Christian who wants to test his or her faith, should read the books I mentioned before they dedicate their life defending a contrived man-made religion. Try to temporarily suspend your belief and try looking at things fresh and new with common sense and a sense of human nature.

The book "The Book Your Church Doesn't want you to Read." is full of facts and very well documented. It is the easiest one on the believer.

If that book doesn't do it, the "Christ Conspiracy, the Greatest Story Ever Sold." will raise the hair on the back of your head, or make you angry. The author of that book was indeed on a mission to dispel the lies of Christianity and has received a lot of criticism from that community. What I will say about her book is that she was/is very angry at discovering what she found as the truth.

Can your faith take such a hit? Are you really ready to use your common sense? Or will you fall back on the lie that these people are agents of the devil trying to attack your God?

First off this was written by Christ to his disciples. And honestly the simplicity is so there. Christ is saying to his disciples that they have to love him first.....before their mothers and fathers their children even themselves......Now for someone who is not a believer I can understand where the confusion would lie.....and it has nothing to do with rejection or hating their parents or anyone else. And see this is where you might say my frustration is. I can understand not knowing and asking but to not know and act as if you do.....And it never said anywhere that learning and understand God's word was easy......It is not.....but believe me when you do understand it you see things in life in a whole new light..

And also understand something about me and where I am coming from. I am not a Christian because my parents were and their parents were. I am who I am because of circumstances in my own life....Because of what God has done in my individual life and what God has shown me to be truth. And also understand I don't need to be hear defending God, Christ or the Bible.......I am here because this is where God has led me to minister to those that are truly seeking. And I have no battle with anyone, and I don't care what you believe or who your God is.......But for those that are truly seeking here I will be....given them the word of God and letting them make up their own minds.....and not by shoving it down their throat not my style....But by example.

I have read the fictional books you are referring to....I would suggest everyone see Passion Of The Christ.......And please there is no truth to that book........Anyone as said to me can write anything...and that is exactly what it is just another fiction about what if.....

And you believe it if you want....you choice.....your freewill......

The books are not fiction. You obviously are either expressing your opinion or you have not read them.

The Passion of the Christ is total fiction and a very gruesome film. I would not recommend it to anyone.

God's intent on redeeming a disobedient mankind do not change.

That’s the whole point. It’s such a dismally depressing vision of a failed God who created a corrupt creation and is forever weeping in sorrow for his failed creation.

It’s a pathetically sorrowful picture of both God and humanity.

I can’t believe anyone can see anything attractive in this picture at all. It’s all about blood and guts, and sin. Even the godhead himself has to have himself nailed to a post. It’s absurdly gruesome.

How anyone can claim the this is a picture of a ‘perfect’ God is far beyond me. There is nothing anywhere near perfect about this pathetically dismal picture. It’s about as sick and demented as a picture can get.

All it does is accuse everyone of being pathetic sinners who are unworthy of God’s love. The only way to win the love of this God is to grovel on your knees begging for forgiveness for having been created as a hopelessly inferior imperfect being. Like as if that was somehow supposed be your fault to begin with!

And then anyone who doesn’t believe in this God is clearly an unworthy heathen who will get precisely what they deserve,… total rejection and cast into eternal damnation whilst all the Christians are laughing and frolicking on their way to a perfect paradise mocking and laughing those who couldn’t believe that God could be such as sadistic sick entity.

Why would you want to believe in such a hateful picture of a God? That’s what really blows my mind?

My cat is more loving that that.

I think I’ll start worshiping my cat. laugh

Clearly that book has nothing at all to do with the real living God. The Bible is an insult to any real God. It's an insult to God to actually believe that God could be that demented. sick

It's not depressing to me......And God will not be the one weeping in sorrow.....For yes He is the creator but you chose to live and do as you please....

A sad picture for whom.....I know where I will be going....and sad and sorrowful I will not be.........And instead of thinking what Christ did for us as gruesome you should be on your knees thanking him.

And you might be a pathetic sinner unworthy of God’s love. But I am not......The actions you take in your life abra are all you....as the consequences will be the same. You are taught at a very early age that your actions always have a consequence whether it be good or bad.....again choice choice choice.

and as far as damnation total rejection and cast to the pits of hell......again choice choice choice. Who is to say or stop you from believing that you are god the flowers are god that you created the universe as did the flowers and that life is always peachy and rosey. Who am I to stop you from believing any of it.

See again a hateful picture of God to you......everything that I believe is evil and bad and your way is the only way.....because then everyone is god and you can what??????????

And clearly only you are right and the bible is a book of fiction and an insult to you all gods of the universe.........now that is laughable.

As with the DiVinchi Code it's fiction......And your choice not to read.....but as I say to people who can talk alot of crap about politics and not vote....you have no say.....

Like I said before, I have heard it all before. And I have plenty of "say" rather I choose to read your drivel or not. But you sound like a glutton for punishment.

Read the books I recommended to you and perhaps your eyes will be opened to the lies you pass to others. But I know this about you. You won't read them.

HELLO I READ THEM.....THEY ARE CRAP TYVM.....BUT IF YOU WANT TO BELIEVE IT.......YOU JUST HAVE FUN WITH THAT.

Yes, I have heard that many times also. "You just don't understand..., he said this... but he meant this... "

For even Jesus to want his disciples to love him "First" and best.." is sort of strange if you ask me. But that is not what it said. (Yes,... I know... I "just don't understand.." ) You are correct. I don't. If that is not what he meant, then he should not have said it that way IMO.

And also understand something about me and where I am coming from. I am not a Christian because my parents were and their parents were. Then you should have presented your beliefs as your beliefs and not try to proclaim that you have "proof." What is proof to you is not proof to others. You cannot win converts that way, so your "ministry" will only work on people who already believe as you do. Take a lesson from the way Paul did it and try to come from the other point of view. Admit that it is what you believe and explain why, instead of claiming that you have proof. You have no proof.

The Davinchi Code was Fiction. It did not try to claim otherwise. The book it was "based" on was not fiction. It was a reference book of facts. Just because the Divinchi code was fiction does not make the other book fiction.

That was the idea. More spreading of the myth of the passion play (which was a play, long ago even before Jesus time)-- in order to effect people's emotions into feeling guilty with the idea that some one died for their sins which does not make any sense at all.

If you want that kind of guilt, you can have it. But I would not let someone die for my "sins." I believe in total responsibility. That is my belief.

I do believe the bible is the very truthful word of God.
However, we need to understand several facts like literary style, the historic moment in which it was written, to whom a specific book was directed, who the author was, and what were his tendencies among the God's people. Another thing which is extremely important to understand the bible, not just for the words written there, is the simbolism. The bible is extremely rich in simbolism that we need to put into context.
Finally and most importantly, we need to take the precious word of our Lord Jesuschrist and apply it into our lives. That is the moment in which the miracle of auto updating occurs. That is when the bible becomes a book with life, that gives us light.
