It's not a big deal. It's just something that I want to do, but feel bad about, so want to know what others think. Thanks for everyone's opinions. And thanks for not judging.

There are a lot of things the Bible preaches against that does not harm other people. Crazy example, but taking the Lords name in vain is harmful to no one but you are still not supposed to do it.

I think you're right. It just sucks that our own body is temptation.

Hmm. The Bible must or is BEST understood in context of all the historical, sociological, etc. aspects of it as well. The Old Testament vs./completes/complements the New Testament. The New Testament fulfilled the prophesies of the Old. JESUS came so that we "could have life and have it more abundantly..." (? Bible--I can find the verse if anyone wants it...)

I am not Jesus; you are not Jesus. Yes, Jesus is Pure. And? Jesus was about love and acceptance...What is the history and story surrounding Onan? Yes, the Bible is God's word INSPIRED. Literal, metaphorical, or some combination of the two interpretations is personal and is what contributes to one's specific walk of faith. Masturbation as adultery...wow..."it's so easy to be 'good' when no one ruffles your feathers." That was on a poster of mine in college ages ago. But it is so true. What is a Christian and what does it mean? Hmm? I believe purity of heart and soul is about WAY more than masturbation...Generosity of spirit, sincerity of heart, desire for true forgiveness and a true turning away from intentional cruelty to other people...Really, masturbation? Such a big deal? All the guilt? Wow, if I had a nickel for every time I've been told that guilt is a useless emotion from every therapist I've been subjected to because I bought into what some "Christians" are telling this girl when I was her age...Lighten up...Jesus is WAY MORE about JOYhappy laugh happy

We're brought up to be and feel guilty! Really?!!! Many of us feel guilty for breathing let alone for enjoying ourselves in any way, shape or form...I often feel guilty or bad about long naps, buying good make-up and ever telling anyone "NO! when asked to do something. Those aren't things that are bad or bad for me; I had a screwy upbringing!laugh

Thread asked for peoples opinions I just gave mine. Seeing as you started this God said if we be luke warm He would spew us out of his mouth. We can not serve both masters. I feel this lady was asking other Christians what there views were and sorry I am not going to say something just to look good in your eyes.

Jesus is about joy,He is also about forgiveness, and an example of how we should behave. We are not to use forgiveness as a licence to sin. You say to look at the old testament as historical ok in the old testament it says God is the same yesterday, today and forever. You said to lighten up what do you mean by that? Anyway you believe your way and I am at peace with me

Maybe my definition of Christianity is a bit liberal by comparison to another's.. But, that is my right.

As I understand it, very simply put...Primarily we are supposed to lead our lives as 'Christ like' as humanly possible. It does not say that we have to be Jesus. Just do our best to be as close to that mark as we can get while still being human.

That does leave much room for error, failure, falling from grace, mistakes...etc... In that, forgiveness and understanding of self can be a pretty good practice too.

Reading the Bible, listening to the Church leaders too literally can be full of pitfalls as well. I feel that believing in the word of the Bible and believing that the Bible is inerrant or taking another humans definition /translation as Gospel... Are two completely different things.

So... I'd suggest (for what it is worth) maybe relaxing some. You know what your truth is. Give yourself some room to live within it.

I agree with the "We are not to use forgiveness as a license to sin" comment. That's why I really wanted to know what other Christians think. Since it's something I do want to do, I want to make sure, in Christianity, if it's ok or not ok. I think people thought I meant in all religions or something. I kinda was looking for opinions from fellow Christians.

OOOOk this is really embarrassing so don't make fun of me.

So, we all know, sex before marriage is sin, but, what about masterbation? I can't find anything in the Bible that says you can't touch yourself. Is masterbation a sin? If it's not, then what about thinking about someone else while you do it? Is that a sin?

I'm serious, so no joking.

Two things.

1) Lust is a sin. If you can masturbate without feeling lust, then go to point 2.

2) Romans 14:23 "But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because this is not from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin."

If you have questions in your heart if something is a sin or not, then it is a sin. If you think "Maybe God will get mad if I do this" and do it anyways, then that tells God that there are things of this world that are more important to you than God. It doesn't matter if it's something that isn't a sin, if you do something and believe you might be sinning, then you are.

I think its a sin and yes I am a christian...If you havent done it, dont..It becomes a bad habit and then it leads to other things in the long run...not that I no from experience lol but if your pure please stay that way..why burden yourself, if you didnt think it was wrong you wouldnt have to question...
