Do you find it attractive when someone is smarter than you are?

What about if they're significantly less intelligent?

For starters, I love when someone is way smarter than me in their particular interests, but about equal overall. If I had to swing one way or another, I'd lean towards them being smarter.

It takes mental stimulation for me to be interested beyond a hello so I would say at least as smart and like you said.....smarter in certain areas.

It is very hot when someone is smarter than you...
its great to have someone that can teach you a thing or too...but we all have something to learn and to teach.

deffinetly smarter in their own area and equal with the others and myself being smarter in my own area as well that way we can learn from eachother...

it is hot if they are smarter than you. But if their constantly correcting you then that would be annoying

I spent years going out with the cute little airhead fluffballs, I even married one. Pfffffffffffffttt. They tend to be interesting for a very brief time, and then the attraction vanishes when I have to explain the meaning of any word with more than one syllable 50 thousand times.

My new gf is the most intelligent person I have ever met -- and this has a tremendous appeal. She can discuss Nietzsche, Ayn Rand, Douglas Adams, or Green Lantern with me. I don't have to explain words or concepts or anything. We do argue about which of us is actually smarter; she says I am, but I KNOW she is....she even beat me in two on-line IQ tests!

I've always been the "brain" in any circle I was in -- it's nice to find someone smarter....!

Yeah I agree. I should clarify I just meant someone who is open to learning, and good at expressing thoughts or ideas. Intelligence isn't necessarily about knowing formulas or memorizing material. My working definition of intelligence is someone who can reason well and have a coherent conversation regardless whether it's their expertise or not.

intelligence is attractive as long as they don't flaunt it. If its just someone who gets things and you can have intellectual conversations with its great.
