The Catholics elected a new Pope today
www.cnn.com/2025/05/08/world/pope-leo-xiv-robert-prevost-wwk-intl-latam I'll apologize right away for people of other religions, or of no religion if discussing this offends, but I was following this more closely after recently watching the movie "Conclave" starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow. I had also seen "The Two Popes" a few years back,--also an excellent film! I'm not a Catholic, anymore, but I found Pope Francis very charming on TV, and hope the best for the new guy, Pope Leo XIV. Anybody else follow this story, or have opinions about the related movies? |

There is also a film, I believe it's called, "the shoes of the fisherman" with Anthony Quinn, another good film about the election of the Pope.

Regardless of your religion the Vatican is a fantastic country for diplomatic purposes. Following the Pope has a massive influence for much of politics, and I imagine similar religions will soon follow suite - I'm looking at you Bektashi Order in Albania.
I suspect this Pope was partially elected in order to improve peace centered dialog between America and similar nations. But it's also worth noting he's unique for having Italian ancestry, social work in Peru, and being ordained in America - quite the potential! |
