2024 election updates: Kamala Harris rakes in campaign donations after Biden drops out of race; Democrats offer early support

* Biden stepped aside on Sunday after pressure from Democrats following his underwhelming debate performance
* Harris is the presumptive successor
* The DNC still has to formally nominate Harris, and other Democrats could seek the nomination at the convention next month
* Harris however, has a huge lead in endorsements and funding.
* No announced decision yet on who she'll select as her VP
* Trump made several angry posts on Truth Social, griping that Biden dropping out isn't fair http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4785639-trump-biden-reelection-tirade/

So the Democrats, considering complaints that Biden is too old to run for president, are getting a new nominee and Trump is now the oldest presidential nominee in history. Together with Trump's age, frequent mental missteps and rampant criminality puts more focus on his fitness for office.

Reminds me of the statement Reagan made to Mondale, I’ll not use my opponent’s youth against him, or something to that affect.. Trump has the experience of a successful term under his belt. Harris will be no different than Biden…maybe more fun to watch her antics than some of Joes classics. I wonder if she could take a shot to the head and keep standing let alone keep up the rally’s.. With Trumps actions by dropping down after getting shot, that is not considered a man with any missteps mental or otherwise. .. proves his fitness..

It's not even clear trump was hit with the bullet, over a shard of teleprompter glass. They won't release the medical report. Trump's term in office is a matter of public record and it wasn't great. $9 trillion added to the debt and negative job growth. Got nothing done but his tax cuts and kissing up to dictators.

So do you think maybe we should wait until the report comes out and if it was a glass shard than call off the inquiry of Cheadle the head secret service.. my point is what is the difference. Someone attempted to kill him . That money kept a lot of businesses open that were termed as essential to stay open to maintain a steady flow of commerce.

The democrats show everybody what their idea of democracy is.. and that is to ignore it and go around the legal process to get what they want , when they see they are losing…the Democratic Party just cheated 40 million people out of their choice for president and installed someone that dropped out of their primary without a single vote for president.. so now our process for voting for president is to nominate one person for each party, and later in the process if your guy is losing than change that nominee for someone else, who will you dems get in September when you see Kamala is far worse than Biden.. I’m sure you’ll take the same path to remake the Supreme Court in to a corrupt system that you can manipulate.. The democrats should be banned from mentioning the word Democracy since they are the true deniers of it.

Harris has been on the Democratic ticket since 2020, so no voters were misled about the progression of leadership. They all knew if Biden was out that Harris was next. And the rules for the DNC were established long before that, so that delegates were allowed to select someone else if the top of the ticket drops out before the convention. Those being the rules, Harris already has enough delegates pledged to lock the Democratic nomination. Any serious challengers are unlikely now, and Harris is actually a good choice. She's certainly younger and judging by the explosion in campaign contributions, she's good for fundraising.

It'll be funny watching Republicans try to establish any standing to sue over this.

How many votes did she get for president? Zero, I thought Maryanne Williamson withdrew her suspension from the race , and she had many more votes than Kamala.. that progression of leadership applies only if the current president stops being president. Than the VP becomes president and therefore the incumbent. She’s still only VP at this point… but all this is a mute point because her policies are Joes policies and that’s why they are losing now and will lose in November…

Why White House is worried about Kamala Harris.

Oh! Kamala was once the Governor of California.
No longer any golden state for years.

Kamala was never governor. Just AG and senator before becoming VP. California is and has always been the Golden State. Sorry if that upsets you, but California is the largest state by economy and population

And your article is from three years ago. Kamala & Joe get along well, and she now has years of experience working with foreign heads of state and working on problems at the nation's highest levels. And importantly for the ticket, eliminates all those worries about having the oldest nominee in history--that's left to the RNC. smile2

Yea , ? It wasn’t a worry for you dems for the last 3 years , now it’s a worry. Lol.. it’s true , we have the oldest, not the most inept , not the most corrupt, that’s what you guys have.. what we have is the former president that had the economy and border security and job growth all in check and doing very well till the China virus hit us. He will get us there again when these elitist politicians are out on their keesters and we put some responsibility and common sense back in the White House. I think Trump and Vance will be the right choice…

I'll admit that I haven't been too impresseed with Kamala as VP. She made some gaffs in the beginning and I haven't seen much of her since. But in the last couple days I have been impressed with her. She's very charismatic and I like her messaging. I hope she keeps it up! I'd love to see a debate between her and Trump. Definitely NOT impressed with JD Vance.

Not a worry for Dems? I'm sorry, I didn't know you were living in a cave in the middle of the woods, because you're here all the time. The Dems have been quite publically freaking out about Biden's age. It's only that despite his age, he's had more support than any of the other candidates. This time as an incumbent, he faced no serious challenges beside his age. His record is fine, and to your point, even counting Biden, Trump is the most corrupt and inept candidate, and has always been. In office, he sold national secrets to foreign governments--actually brought the Russian foreign minister into the Oval Office, for crying out loud! You and your cave, huh?

Seriously, Biden's age was a serious problem, and now it's not. And Muffin's point about Vance is good too; he brings nothing to the campaign. His main qualification is that he likes Trump, now.

My favorite take is the tweet "J.D. Vance is the Ron DeSantis of Sarah Palins."
