I suppose some people have a knee jerk reaction when responding to others' opinions, "whining" whatever you want to call it...
It is unfortunate, but welcome to the "real world"..maybe in a "perfect" world people would be more empathetic as they should..

Okay I must throw my two cents in it may only be worth a half cent but here it is.

I have watched and read alot of Lex's post some have been humorous and made me laugh some of the one liners are out there at times but still very funny. Then he has had his post that are very serious and up for debate as this one.

Which I must say has some really good opinions here.

But now I have seen Jess post also and have always been impressed for her honesty to others she don't beat around the bush and does have a lot of insightful things to say. Sometimes I don't always agree with the way Jess puts it but.... then I can ignore that also just as anyone can. But now I have read some of the post Jess has made that does amaze me on the other hand and are very good.

So all I have to say is Kuddos to you both for keeping it as a debate and a good one at that which I must say good points on both sides of the debate. For I do see both sides and agree with both.

Hey True, I hate TRUE obsissive whining,

BUT there is a VERY FINE LINE between someone who just wants others opinions, or others to SEE someones ability to HURT others. Or just TRYING to understand LIFE on the NET..???
And the site will KILL A THREAD in a second even if THAT persons looking for TRUTH or answers...

But DEGRADING games are no problem to view and play in,,would you go down on the one above you? THATS a little OVER OPEN on one side verses WHAT THEY CALL DRAMA......

I just think people should be able to speak their feelings. Some are just doing it for attention I'm sure. There are some that really are lonely. My goes out to them and if I can find away to cheer someone up, I will be there. Now pass me another cigarette.. lol

Terry -- I don't see your post as drama or anything even remotely similar. You're making a good point -- the difference between real whining and simple healthy venting is a fine one, and varies for each and every observer. There is no all-encompassing definitive line here.

The issue of how people treat each other here is a sore spot for me -- mainly because of the inexcusable rudeness and vulgarity I was met with when I first signed up here.

Mike and VC have made it clear from the beginning that they want JSH to continue to grow, and that only makes sense. The more members we have, the more options everybody has; in theory, the more possible matches, the more possible friends, etc., everybody has.

It doesn't work that way, though, if people are driven away from here, simply because other people don't like something they posted. If it's offensive, if it's a legitimate violation of site rules, then fine, report it. Otherwise, there's no reason to try to stifle someone's legitimate opinions and feelings. If you don't like it, don't read it.

Try to look at it from the standpoint of a new person coming in. They post and are immediately hit with "shut up, stop whining, be a man, grow up" -- and they could be excused if they thought, "Hey, these people are mean! Why should I even bother with this site?"

And maybe that person COULD have been a really valuable asset to the site. But once they get treated like garbage and leave, we'll never know.

That's ALMOST what I did, after my initial experience here. I was on my way out, until a few people (Terry being one) gave me the scoop on what JSH was really like. That made a difference.

OK, so let's think about what's good for JSH once in awhile, and not just what WE like or don't like. Maybe some of these "whiners" will settle down and become contributors. Do you want to drive those people away? I sure don't.
