El Eternauta, probably not known by anyone here... a series of comic books (you can find references easily just google it) by German Hector Oesterheld and Francisco Solano Lopez... really great novel... unfortunately author was killed (or rather desaparecido) by the Argentinian regime of the time...

New Line Cinema had spent $1.5 million developing a film version of the Foundation Trilogy. The failure to develop a new franchise was partly a reason the studio signed on to produce The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.

On July 29, 2008, New Line Cinema co-founders Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne were reported to have been signed on to produce an adaptation of the trilogy by their company Unique Pictures for Warner Brothers. However, Columbia Pictures (Sony) successfully bid for the screen rights on January 15, 2009, and then contracted Roland Emmerich to direct and produce. Michael Wimer was named as co-producer. Two years later, the studio hired Dante Harper to adapt the books. This project failed to materialize and HBO acquired the rights when they became available in 2014.

In November 2014, TheWrap reported that Jonathan Nolan was writing and producing a TV series based on the Foundation Trilogy for HBO. Nolan confirmed his involvement at a Paley Center event on April 13, 2015. In June 2017, Deadline reported that Skydance Media will produce a TV series. In August 2018 it was announced that Apple has commissioned a 10 episode straight-to-series order.

However, on April 18, 2019, Josh Friedman left the project as co-writer and co-showrunner. This was apparently planned, with either Friedman or screenwriter David Goyer leaving and the other staying. On 13 March 2020, Apple suspended all active filming on Apple TV+ shows due to the COVID-19 outbreak. On October 6, filming was resumed.

On June 22, 2020 at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, Tim Cook announced a TV series for 2021 on Apple TV. The series is to be filmed at Troy Studios, Limerick, Ireland and the budget is expected to be in the region of $50 million.

Asimov's Robot series is used frequently in Science fiction movies focusing on robots. The 3 laws of robotics (which I disagree with) are cited quite regularly in movies and tv shows.

While Asimov has great science fiction stories I feel his work is way over used.

Comic books and Graphic Novels are a good suggestion. Hollywood already sinks hundreds of millions of dollars into making comic book movies. Plus, game universe movies are getting popular.

I don't mind CGI when done well.
CGI has the potential to be able to make movies which couldn't have been made by old industry standards.

There's a wealth of good science fiction and fantasy stories which have yet to be done. Video games usually pull from those stories because CGI is kinda expected in a video game. Its easier to sell the public on the CGI because its a game.
However, if you look at the quality of the cut scenes in recent games, they're often better than some of the movies that get released.
Technology is opening new possibilities for telling stories which were impossible a few decades ago.

I watch for new movies on the drawing board.
I pay attention to movies lost in DEVhell.
Many stories are 'stuck' for a number of reasons but all could be great movies or movie series.
What we get is the same stories redone again and again.
Hollywood doesn't like taking a chance. They want a sure thing to make money.
Big budget 'blockbuster' movies don't get funded because of the money risk.
So, we end up with the same ole, same ole.

Also, Some stories are too complex for many to find interesting.
John Q Public needs everything focused on and explained. Stories which are too complex or 'alien' to everyday life don't have high ticket sales.
So, the truly good stories get low budget with little or no promotion.
Then Hollywood says "Look, it didn't make money" and pow, the story is shunned.
Its a reason why we see a lot of remakes and re-imagining. Same stories redone again and again. We also see a lot of backstory movies for popular films. Hollywood milks the successful movies for every drop of money they can. Instead of making something new.

Also, Syfy has made a mockery of science fiction. Instead of supporting good science fiction they back Asylum Pictures and other bad productions. Hell, Netflix sponsors better films than Syfy. I find it sad.

The Sword of Truth

is a series of twenty-one epic fantasy novels written by Terry Goodkind. The books follow the protagonists Richard Rahl , Kahlan Amnell, Nicci, Cara, and Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander on their quest to defeat oppressors who seek to control the world and those who wish to unleash evil upon the world of the living. While each novel was written to stand alone, except for the final three that were intended to be a trilogy, they follow a common timeline and are linked by ongoing events that occur throughout the series.
