You do not always need a disk.. If the cam came on your computer all the info should already be loaded and you will need to go into setting to activate it.. I found this link if you do not have a disk and the cam was not installed on your computer.. https://smallbusiness.chron.com/activate-webcam-disc-28798.html I'm not sure how to load them for I turned mine off on my computer.. But surely someone else would know more on how to set it up.. |

with the cam you should have a disk after plugging the cam in , insert the disk and install the driver then restart the camera great! did not come with a disk am I going to need that ... These days you rarely get a disk anymore nor need it. It's all plug and play and it gets drivers from the internet if need be. If it doesn't work properly and doesn't install drivers, you can normally get the drivers yourself on the net. Usually on the website of the manufacturer of course. I haven't used a disk in years, not even when something did come with one. I chuck it in a drawer, plug in the device and it works. . . . |

Windows 10 is different than 7. Which OS are you running?
Is the camera compatible with the OS you have? When I changed from Win7 to win10 my old camera was incompatible and I needed to buy another. Most systems have what is called 'plug & play'. Shut off the computer, unplug the device, turn on the computer, let it boot to stable. Plug the device n and see if a lil window notification appears near the clock stating new device found. It may say installing driver software er something to that effect. Once the drivers are installed, the device should work, the problem is, sometimes the program to run it is hidden or not available. You have two things; The device and the program which uses the device. If the device installed, it may not run right if your default run programs are not set. Or you have turned off that feature. Roku (streaming video, I believe) will need a program which can stream video. Camera can usually be assigned to any program allowing camera input. Both probably have their own software programs available tho Roku may need special permissions since you pay for that service. Once plug and play has finished installing drivers for the hardware, you can go into the hardware list to check for it. If it doesn't appear, at the top of the window in the commands, run 'scan for hardware changes'. Then check the list again. You can also scan for hardware changes on each device title by rt clicking. I no longer have win7 but you can get to the hardware list by rt clicking the "My Computer" icon. On Win10: The easiest way to look at the hardware is to put Device Manager into a search and click on the result. Your camera hardware will be in > Sound, Video & Game Controllers If you don't see your camera, it is not installed. Your microphone (if it uses your camera) will show your camera as the device under > Audio Inputs & Outputs and it should also appear under > Imaging Devices. Both The Roku and the camera should appear under > Universal Serial Bus controllers If either device does not appear as hardware, there is an issue with the hardware installation. This must be fixed first, before you can determine if the software is working right. IF THE HARDWARE IS OKAY: (Installed and working properly) The issue may be with permissions. The Roku is a propritary device which will probably require specific software and licensing to functon correctly. You will need to download & install that software from Roku. (there amy be work arounds but I don't use Roku) The camera is a common perephrial device. It requires no special licensing or software to function. Any program which supports a camera can work. Camera manufacturers offer camera software as well but that software is not usually required to use the camera. In Win10: Rt click on the start icon and select settings. OR...Search for Auto Play and select result. Make sure Use Auto Play for all media and devices is switched to ON. In the same window (list on the left collumn) click USB Make sure the box for Notify me if there are issues connecting to USB devices is checked. Search for Camera Settings click the result Camera Privacy Settings. Read the page and make the changes needed. You should see Camera access for this device is on Allow apps to access your camera radio button should be ON. Then you can go thru the list of which apps can have access to your camera or not. Camera app must be ON The radio button for Allow desktop apps to access your camera should be ON. Most audio/video software can run camera input. If you can't find any software which can turn on your camera or microphone, you can download software from the camera manufacturer or freeware for audio/videos. Note that messenger and browser camera operations depend on their software and your firewall settings. Recap: Make sure your hardware is installed and working properly. Make sure your software settings are permitted and working properly. Test the device on software which has the capacity to use it. I hope I helped. Windoze 10 is still pretty new to me so there may be better ways. It did take me awhile to tweak my system so it works how I want it and the camera issues I faced were hardware and privacy, I have the software. My system didn';t come with a disc drive. I had to buy a USB drive to play movies and saftware discs. It was cheap and Walmart had one in stock. My camera is a Logitech so it has common 'free' software readily available. Good luck! |
