Alot will go downhill. Have to go to libraries for simple information.
People will need to socialize more again. We basically revert back to industrialization instead of globalization, Sure you can argue that are advantages and disadvantages for it. But in general i believe its a huge step backwards. It's like asking what would change for you if electricity would disappear |

Good thing? People who live in the same area, would actually talk to each other.
Bad thing? I would lose social media messengers, which I rely on to be in contact with family and friends accross the globe. |

I suppose it depends on how you define and use "the internet".
The internet is a form of connectivity. There are many scenarios where the internet is removed but connectivity continues. Meaning the internet becomes obsolete. There are also many scenarios where the internet is removed due to some other unfortunate event like global LOS or global failure of the web. Global loss of electricity, the "Fire Sale" scenario (from Die Hard: Live Free or Die Hard), Loss of cooling/global heat and so on. The internet could morph into a virtual presence via wireless signal. The hardware might be integrated into our bodies. Servers might be replaced with quantum repositories and information exchanges. Depending on what has happened to the internet there are a few likely scenarios which will still provide connectivity and information exchange. It could be a bit of bad, a bit of good. Humans had connectivity and information exchange before the internet existed and we thrived. We built libraries and wrote/read books and papers. We told tales and watched the news, read papers and magazines. We talked to each other. We had connectivity and information exchange but at a slower pace. The internet is also not the only form of connectivity and information exchange we currently use. For many, loss of internet is a mere inconvenience at best. For others, their world would crumble. I remember a little over a decade ago I was fighting for my health and had problems paying my bills. I allowed my internet to be shut off in favor of spending my money on something I needed to survive. My internet was OFF but my computer still worked. It was an inconvenience but not a dire emergency. I missed interacting with my online friends and when I came back online I was out of the loop and had to read a lot of old stuff to get back on track. I haven't been without internet for just over 12 years now. I remember the old dial-up AOL connection at 14,600 KBS on a 56K modem. I remember having to wait half a day to download a small 100MB game demo. I remember having to turn off pictures so the page would load faster. Compared to the connection I have now, that would be like not having internet. No internet, changes in my life? -I wouldn't be able to stream films. I would have to buy movies and be stuck with the bad ones. I would still convert the good ones to electronic files and give away the discs. I currently have more movies than I could watch before I die if I were to start at the beginning and watch every single one from start to finish. -It would be more difficult to discover new music artists similar to my taste preferences. However, I have so much music in my collection I could listen to it all in two decades and I doubt I'll live much longer. -I would visit the libraries more often. I seek knowledge. Much of my online activity is reading up on different things, especially physical sciences. -I have an extensive electronic library which includes comic books and audio books. Far more than I can read in what life I have left. -Since I have a large collection of movies and shows and documentaries I still would not pay or watch broadcast TV or listen to broadcast radio. -I would miss conversing with so many unique personalities from around the world tho. I have plenty of money to pay my internet bill now. If for some reason the internet went blank, I would free up computer space by deleting/uninstalling all my internet related software. |

It would be a bad thing. Internet has brought us so much! The ability to connect with people around the world, from other cultures, speaking different languages.
It offers tremendous opportunity to learn and develop yourself. You can run a different type of business now over the internet. Also, since it is everywhere and available to most everyone, it makes it more difficult for things to go hidden from public. And we do not need to know everything, like you don't need to know what the surgeon does with your body while your under. What matters is the job gets done well. But some things we DO need to know. Internet basically opened up the world. And people who waste their life away on the net doing mindnumbing things would've done that anyway but then with tv, couch-slouching, drinking beer, smoking grass. |

It can't cease to exist, as it's already out there and too much an essential part of nearly everyone's lives now. Take away the Internet and the riots and outcry, will be a lot bigger and far more violent than what's happening in America just now! Sad, but true!

The Internet is one of mankind's greatest accomplishments in history and it's used mostly for porn and watching kitty videos. We have the Library of Alexandria at our fingertips and where almost any answer to any question can be answered like we have our own personal Oracle of Delphi in our pocket.
The internet in itself may not be at risk, but the telecom industry sure is. Most telecom satellites are not heavily shielded and are open to the possible destruction via X-Class solar flares. We haven't been hit for a couple of centuries now. The last time was before all of the current technology existed so nobody is completely sure about how it will fare down here on the planet, but we do know that most of the non-military satellites will be fried when it eventually happens and the military ones won't be able to handle the civilian workload. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2150350-a-tech-destroying-solar-flare-could-hit-earth-within-100-years/# “Back then, there was not very much technology so the damage was not very significant, but if it happened in the modern world, the damage could be trillions of dollars,” says Loeb. “A flare like that today could shut down all the power grids, all the computers, all the cooling systems on nuclear reactors. A lot of things could go bad.” Loeb says an event as powerful as the 1859 one could cause about $10 trillion of damage to power grids, satellites and communications. A flare just a bit stronger could even damage the ozone layer. Previous work has shown that such an event seems likely to occur in the next century, with a 12 per cent chance of it happening in the next decade, but nobody seems to be all that worried, Loeb says. |

would that be bad thing? Good thing? A bit of both? What changes in your life would occur? Yeah, I thought the thread was how it would affect us personally. As a society it would be bad. It would be very bad for 1st worlders. As a species I don't think it would matter much. There's still many populations and cultures that do not have internet connection. Much of the 3rd world would be slightly inconvenienced or unaffected. Most utility grids are on an intranet not using the internet. There are many isolated intranet systems in major corporations and large companies. Even I use a home network intranet. The internet is beneficial but it is far from being crucial worldwide. The impact of LOS will be different for different generations. There are people alive right now who have never known life without the internet. ARPANet, became functional in September 1969, linking scientific and academic researchers in the United States. The Internet grew out of ARPANET, with ARPANET being on the subnetworks that made up the internet. The Internet is a global network of networks while the Web, also referred formally as World Wide Web (www) is collection of information which is accessed via the Internet. Another way to look at this difference is; the Internet is infrastructure while the Web is service on top of that infrastructure. The 10 most popular uses of the Internet in descending order of use are: December 21, 1995 1. Electronic mail. At least 85% of the inhabitants of cyberspace send and receive e-mail. Some 20 million e-mail messages cross the Internet every week. 2. Research. 3. Downloading files. 4. Discussion groups. These include public groups, such as those on Usenet, and the private mailing lists that ListServ manages. 5. Interactive games. Who hasn’t tried to hunt down at least one game? 6. Education and self-improvement. On-line courses and workshops have found yet another outlet. 7. Friendship and dating. You may be surprised at the number of electronic “personals” that you can find on the World Wide Web. 8. Electronic newspapers and magazines. This category includes late-breaking news, weather, and sports. We’re likely to see this category leap to the top five in the next several years. 9. Job-hunting. Classified ads are in abundance, but most are for technical positions. 10. Shopping. It’s difficult to believe that this category even ranks. It appears that “cybermalls” are more for curious than serious shoppers. Almost 4.57 billion people were active internet users as of April 2020, encompassing 59 percent of the global population. http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm |

The internet is a convenience just like washing machine or vacuum cleaner. Makes people lazy in communicating with others and learning how to educate oneself without the answers in front of you. Like the calculator gives answers when you can actually figure out the equation on paper. I’m not saying internet is bad it’s just we’re turning into robots. Lol

the only way the INTRANET, might cease to exist if there was another cold war or global war, China vs USA etc which is quite possible with this that date going on, but still the internet will survive, (internet is internal network, intranet as what is really is the internet & people just call it internet since it's easier to say)
it wouldn't be a bad thing if everyone unplugged for a while, just to meet people for real, or just get their device out of their face for a while. |

An intranet is a private network that can only be accessed by authorized users. The prefix "intra" means "internal" and therefore implies an intranet is designed for internal communications.
The Internet is a globally-connected network of computers that enables people to share information and communicate with each other. |
