Topic: Would you eat Fido or fluffy ..... | |

I recently watched a documentary about the dog meat trade in Korea . A little shocked .... Didn’t know this happened . Found it distressing to watch . Many of the dogs were clearly unwanted pets.
The dogs were fattened and often tortured before they were killed . .... seemed so brutal and inhumane . Caged dogs awaiting the same fate ... witnessed the killings/torture and reacted to the distress . How do you feel about Asia’s Dog markets and wild animal trade ( wolf cubs !!!!) ??? If anyone is from Asia or has experienced the dog market .. would love to hear your perspective . Personally .. I want to rescue all the fur babies . I can understand poverty and culture as Influencing factors . But I do not understand the mistreatment and inhumanity On a happier note ...A uk organisation rescued several dogs from one market and successfully rehomed them . ... .. on arrival one little dog huddled in the corner not making eye contact ..head, tail and ears down ... fear reflected in his posture and behaviour . Six weeks later .....his little tail was starting to wag again and his fear slowly starting to disappear |

Laughing .. Mr Chef ... I hope there are no dog or kitty steaks on your menu

I agree with you whole heartily Blondey. I would love to rescue all of them if I could. I knew the Koreans did that sort of thing and it is cruelty to animals even though it is their culture.

I know there are many in the western world who are just as cruel when it comes to animal treatment poetry .. I just don’t understand their motivation and aggression

In my ventures overseas, it was strongly suggested to NOT ask what was in the meals being served in the local restaurants. I'm pretty sure I've had at least one, if not both, domesticated animals. I've eaten plenty of rarities over the years from snake, gator, horse, rabbit, coon, eel, squirrel, crickets, bison, venison, elk, ants...and so on... Meat is meat; if you flavor it enough with spices you really can't tell the difference from one to another. Still nothing stacks up against a good ol' fashioned hamburger cooked over an open flame.
I used to joke with the wife that we were fattening up the cat to have for Thanksgiving so we could save money on the turkey. No, we never did eat the cat. Judging other cultures harshly because what they eat conflicts with our standard diet is just ignorant. Think about how the billion+ of traditional Hindu feel about us Americans eating that hamburger when they hold the cow in such high regard. Would I eat my three puppies? Not on your life. However, if push comes to shove, I am going out into my woods and start to thin out the wildlife residing there. Until that happens, however, they shall remain under my protective umbrella. |

@xtreme ..Culture is not being questioned ... what is being judged is unacceptable mistreatment of any animal whether a pet or part of the food chain . Torture is never ok .

Eating an animal that many in the West would consider a companion isn't the issue. As Blondie said, the issue is cruelty and that isn't acceptable.

If Daisy the cow, or Lamkins, or Babe and Miss Piggy are all gone, then fluffy cat, flopsy rabbit, fido, and chooky are all drawing straws, and praying for fresh roadkill. There are herbs and spices to complement any meat.
Every scratch you itch, every footstep you take, every hand washing, fly spraying, bleach usage, etc. kills thousands or millions of little living organisms, and you applaud it and do it (some of it) every day. The bigger the animal you kill, the more you notice, the less you want to do it, unless you are hungry. In australia, wild and feral cats and dogs do great damage to the native wildlife. They deserve to be someone else's dinner instead. You can buy a small device from most supermarkets, designed to kill mice. And poison. Who feels guilty about that ? Aren't mice cute and fluffy too ? |

There were a few yappy nippy Fluffys I could have easily eaten without qualms.
But Fidos, never. |

I have a cat right now who was shot, tortured, thrown away and then rescued. Vet bills are high, but she is not as shy as 2 months ago. Cruelty has no place whether its an animal or human. The Cruel people should be treated exactly the same as they treat their victims.
