Same question but 500 years in the future, no one needs to work ,money has been eliminated as has illness, you have anything you want , one snag
Your love in the future accepts this as the norm , people are recycled because of overcrowding when they reach 60 scared

people are recycled when they reach 60? Present, I still have a few years to look forward to. In that future, I would have been dead 13 years ago.

Have you seen the movie Soylent Green?
This 1973 futuristic dark thriller touched me greatly as I actually like the premise.

Remember the movie Logan's Run?...the little light in the palm of your hand lasted , I think, for 30 years...when it started flashing, your time was up...

A not so uncommon theme in many of the movies is that major global corporations control the planet...in one movie, every restaurant was a taco bell because taco bell won the restaurant war...LOL

this is interesting in that some reality trends seem close to paralleling old sci-fi plots and story lines

Yes, I had seen Logan's Run although I didn't like the premise. But I think 30 years of blissful life with no worries would be enough. Don't be greedy should be the moral of story laugh

I just noticed that Soylent Green was the year 2022. I'm so glad it didn't happen and we're still ok. (ok is subjective though)

I’d party like a rock star until I was 59 then say
“ok, time to go back”. glasses

but, given the age criteria, i’d already be recycled *sad face*

..people are recycled because of overcrowding when they reach 60 scared

No illness, but they bump you at 60?
So you open the door, and BANG right between the eyes?
Fun place.

If you’re lucky, they let you choose what you get
recycled into. I’d choose Jason Mamoa’s pillow. :)-

What would you do if this happened to you?

Most likely I'd be captured by the government and studied to try and determine how to time travel as a means of relieving overpopulation.

When you put in something like this "people are recycled because of overcrowding when they reach 60" you have to realize you're kinda shooting yourself in the foot.
How do they track, measure, find people?
Not to mention resource allocation?

It would have to be tightly controlled and monitored. That means extremely powerful government control and a lot of restrictions.

Plus, if the problem is overpopulation...there'd be no real freedom.
Where could I go?
You think if people tolerated a government run ageist recycling program of their family members the decision would have been "Hmmm, national parks and open spaces? Or let people expand where necessary? Screw it, kill me and my family because there are too many people, but keep the travel option!"

If "overpopulation" is such a factor that it requires recycling of anyone over 60, and that is accepted, then you may get everything you want...but it's going to be delivered to you in your small, confined, cell.

Not to mention, where would you find "love?"
You don't think with overpopulation would come strict controls on sex and dating that may lead to procreation? Good luck finding "love."

Plus there's the question from the other thread "would you go back?"
If you go back, you might be giving the dystopian government clues on how to travel in time.
Possibly contributing to some kind of "time wars" where future generations are pissed at previous ones for what they've done.
Or used as a dumping program.
If I choose to go back, I might then have to look over my shoulder for the rest of my life to see if that future time's cops try to come get me for something.

Your love in the future accepts this as the norm

Similar to the other question, any time spent in this fantasy ego stroking, you aren't finding "love," you are finding escapism from the horror that has become your life.

I wrote a silly piece about what might possibly happen in a future where nanotechnology reaches it fullest potential.

The 'Side Effect'

Its been 3 generations since the medical nanites were made mandatory. People stopped dying. Even if someone were to be decapitated simply placing their head near their body initiated auto repair. Children still grew into adults but stopped aging at their physical prime. Below is some of the unexpected side effects of this wonderful technology.

Bathrooms became obsolete.
The nanites break down body waste into its atomic components and reuses the atoms to maintain the body. Houses and buildings started being built without toilet facilities and many older homes had theirs removed.

Medical facilities became obsolete.
Nobody ever got sick anymore. Injuries were healed or prevented by the nanites immediately. Schools and universities closed worldwide. Pharmaceutical companies closed down and there was no need for doctors, nurses or and support personnel.

Funeral homes & cemeteries became obsolete.
Since nobody was dying anymore, there was no need for burial facilities.

Riskier lifestyles became the norm.
Since nanites controlled the pain threshold and make instantaneous body repairs, people were able to perform death defying acts on a regular basis. Personal protection devices and methods became obsolete. Not only could someone walk into a burning building they could jump from an airplane without a chute and work in space without a suit. Volcanologists would drink a solution and the nanites formed a heat barrier around their bodies allowing them to stand in volcano magma.

Reproduction became an lucrative business.
For two people to reproduce, both had to have the nanites reprogrammed to allow their bodies to manufacture the sperm & eggs. Worldwide population growth slowed to a trickle. Children were born with their own nanites and pregnancy only lasted for 5 months. Regional reprogramming facilities sprang up and prospered from the costs.

Explosion of arts.
With longer life came an increase in artistic talent. From drawing to dancing, expressionism became the new drive in people's lives. Great display halls were built and the music recording business failed. Each region had an army of performers that toured to represent them. World domination switched from a power base to a talent base. It was a great honor to be chosen to represent your region and it became the most coveted job in the world.

Explosion of technology.
With the increased creativity there was also a technology explosion. Space and ocean based facilities sprang up at an incredible rate. The Moon and Mars were populated and a new base is being built on Titan supported by the Jupiter/Saturn Mining Corporation. A great space port was constructed at the equator in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Cities sprang up in Antarctica and on the North Pole. High speed magnetic transportation systems were built that allowed worldwide travel in hours.

Personal farming became the standard.
Since the nanites only needed raw materials and very little of those, there was no need for a large food supply. People started eating once per month. Kitchens were removed from homes. Restaurants and grocery stores became obsolete. The nanites in saliva allowed you to consume anything your body needed by just placing your mouth against it. Don't worry, human nanites have protection protocols so you can still kiss your honey.

Wars became obsolete.
Since bodies heal instantaneously war and assaults no longer had any affect. Nanites could morph your body to form a hard protective shell or separate your parts to avoid excessive damage. The world's military forces were disbanded. Weapons were recycled.

Prisons became obsolete.
Using the reprogramming industry, deviant behavior was reprogrammed. Brain damage was repaired and personality disorders were diagnosed and therapy became the new society measure. Huge institutions grew worldwide and each community had their own team of therapists.

Religions became obsolete.
Aside from the few that chose to keep their religions there was no longer a reason to believe in an afterlife. Churches closed and all the drama, fighting and racism related to the opposing views died shortly after. People became content with life and pursued active productive lifestyles in harmony.

In 500 years nearly any science fiction idea could be feasible. Up to and including curing death.

The problem with that is the fact sex is primarily an imperative for reproduction, a way for our genes to have immortality but if we are immortal already, sex may never be explored. Our sexual organs might become obsolete.
Many of the 'appearance parts' we have now might fade away. Hastened by the same nanites that allow us to stay healthy forever.
How a human might look is however/whatever is needed.
You probably couldn't tell who was a man or a woman, or a fish, bird or other creature.

What's more, being transposed to such an environment without nanite protection could be fatal. Even if you could find someone willing, where would you find the stuff to make a decent sammich?
Chances are, some nanodrone will find you and disassemble you for organic compounds.

Lol, this!

I'm turning 58 in a month, I'd definitely wouldn't want to stay.

I would try to get back to this time because it is scientifically proven fact that we don't need to age the way we do at all. Has to do with telomeres.
When people are happy, have no stress, the telomeres stay longer and we don't age.
Meaning there's no reason whatsoever to 'recycle' people at age 60 if the society is good and healthy.
So I'd come back and work on creating a different outcome, because that prospective sux.
Love of my life there or no, it is no way of life. I'd come back.

I do btw also not believe in overcrowding. There's a reason for it and in not too much time it will sort itself out.
