Topic: Dorian Hurricane | |
---|---|
I don't see anyone starting a topic on it so I decided to do it.
After all we got a few people on here who are in Florida. I am not there, but I regularly watch updates online on what's going on and just now watched how many people are trying to get to stores to get water, ply-board, petrol and so on. The queues so long they're wrapped around the stores and petrol stations and DIY stores out of material. Now that makes me think, why are these people so late with all this? If I'd live in an area like that I'd make sure I'd always have plywood to board up windows and stuff, likely have canned food always and so on. Not to judge, just kinda wondering why people aren't simply prepared. Another thingie I find odd is how slow such a hurricane moves. I used to always think they'd go fast, instead they take days. Nerve-racking! Anywho, I hope everyone there is going to be okay and will get through it unscathed! |

Thanks crystal
I thought about starting it this morning and I got busy with other things. I thought the same thing after irma.... I've been stocking up at since. but I over prepare But there's many thousands that just moved here and most hurricanes only effect certain areas.. This will be like irma where the entire state is at risk This one is also adding extra danger due to how slow its moving. It's only moving 13 miles a hour and by time it hits land they are predicting it will slow to a crawl... irma went thru in one night... Dorian they are saying winds and rain for2-3 days for us in central Florida. Thanks again for making the thread... I'll try and keep everyone updated |

Haha (the double post, lol).
Yes would be good to stay up to speed with how it's going and how you're doing! I understood indeed that it slowing down makes it worse. Kinda feels counter-intuitive, you'd think the other way round. And I think I'd over-prepare too. Better safe than end up with nothing cos you're too late. And then I'd prolly forget the anti-flooding stuff, haha. I couldn't hump sandbags anymore either. Wishing you all the best these coming days of waiting and prepping and waiting! |

Thanks Crystal and everyone for your well wishes
My main concern is that it will be like Irma because of how slow it's going so has the opportunity to grow which would, like KitKat said, affect all of Florida, even the Keys. Down here I don't think many were concerned until yesterday when the Keys was included in the cone. It still appears to be going more Central but could very well head south. When Irma hit, everyone thought it was going to go up the East Coast and it shifted to the West Coast instead. They closed the schools on Tuesday so I think most are taking it a little more serious. They won't be evacuating the Keys, least not a forced evacuation because it would be sending people into an area that could be worse, according to the officials. That could change if it shifts significantly. Right now I'm safe at the resort. They had extra food shipped here today in the event that trucks won't be running. Unless we end up evacuating at the last minute, we should be fine, even if we loose power. |

@ crystal no it's pretty typical Florida weather for storms in the afternoon
@ mikey RC (ragin) hummm I wouldn't mind some good looking navy men to come by thanks for your prayers River hopefully it will miss y'all... and glad you're some place safe Ok update... now they think it's going to ride up the coast instead of the middle.... kinda good news but it's still going to be a cat2 by the time it hits Daytona.... So I'm tired of stressing, maybe I'll just go to bed pull the covers over my head and y'all wake me when it's over |

Thanks, I am. They let me leave early today so I've been relaxing. The buses to the Keys won't be running after Sunday so very few crew members from the mainland will be able to come to work. I was going to be on vacation Monday through Friday and leave on the 7th... but now I will be on call Monday through Friday, will most likely be working Monday through Wednesday for sure.
Enjoy your rest and peace and quiet |
