Topic: illegal immigration in numbers

Not long ago, in December 2017, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released and promoted an upbeat report declaring that illegal entry in the United States had reached historically low levels. “In FY17, CBP recorded the lowest level of illegal cross-border migration on record, as measured by apprehensions along the border and inadmissible encounters at U.S. ports of entry,” stated a Trump administration report from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). (Emphasis added.)

The report reflected reality: Border Patrol apprehensions along the Southwest border plummeted by approximately 80%, from a high of over 1.6 million in FY 2000, to around 300,000 in FY 2017. (Apprehensions are considered a proxy for illegal entry, so the fewer apprehensions, the less illegal entry.)

numbers have already declined SHARPLY over the decades, the 'CRISIS' may be overstated ...

You know, I had an epiphany the other day..

These people yammering about/ hating on "illegal immigrants"...they'd probably be the same people that back in the 1700's-1800's would catch and return escaped slaves trying to make it north to freedom...huh

well, they would have been 'illegals' not having 'proper documents' and there fore terribly concerning 'criminals'

To me it just defies all logic to even consider the possibility of flinging the borders wide open and start allowing everyone Under the Sun to come flooding in without checking to see if they're wanted criminals first.

Will America ever wake up from their slumber?

There are a LOT of white people who came in through the airports, etc, and have looong overstayed their visas, ergo "criminals"...why are you not concerned about them?
And doubtless some of *those* actually commit the crimes the brown people are blamed with..but no one seems concerned about that.

Not just white but others also. We are concerned about them and there is an attempt to find and deport them. I believe the biggest problem is Congress had been unwilling to pass legislation for a visa tracking system. The same Congress that can't pass immigration reform or increased border security.

When did I say that I wasn't concerned about them and why does it always have to be about race? The subject here is illegal immigration, not legal entry into our country through the front door. Illegal immigrants consist of people from all Races, ages, and walks of life. Many of them are really good people that we'd like to have as US citizens but obviously we have to weed out the criminals who think it's okay to come to this country and start murdering innocent American citizens!

The numbers seem to have changed a little! From the Border Patrol: The first 4 months o FY2019 = 201,497 apprehensions. At that pace, I would think FY2019 totals in the area of 500k to 700k.

People supporting illegals are not thinking logically.

My point was:
People are ONLY talking about the southern border..

You hear zero about the (white, Asian) ones who came in through the airports or via ship, and have overstayed their visas...some for *years*..

When equal time is given to *that*, then I will listen.

P.S. My original comment about returning slaves was NOT about race...it was about the principle.
The people going on about the immigrants from the southern border would have probably been anti-abolitionists back in the day..

Right now the Southern Border is the MOST illegals coming in. Of course we should check ALL ports of entry, but it does not help when New York City and California advertise they will give sanctuary to all. After all, WE stole Texas and the border states from the MExicans. Why don't all Texans, Arizonians, etc. move to the midwest and give their land back to MEXICO ???

And you really can't figure out why apprehensions are down? Let me make easier for you: They know they won't be getting in so they stopped coming in huge caravans like they did under Bush and Obama.

There are approximately 3.7 million unlawful immigrant households in the U.S. These households impose a net fiscal burden of around $54.5 billion per year. That is an additional 1,000 per year in taxes to a LEGAL family.

Why is it my responsibility to pay for the medical needs of foreigners when I can't even afford health insurance for my own family? We shell out 135 BILLION every year to 12.5 illegal immigrants and another 4.2 million children of theirs.

Why are we housing the criminals of other countries? They are 22% of ALL PRISONERS now.

And how about all the crimes committed by the ones who keep coming back?

I don't really think you care about them, btw. I think you only want a reason to complain about Trump. There are better issues you could choose, because he is 100% correct on this. He was elected to do this and he better keep his promise, no matter how much you disrespect the voters.

People are not ONLY talking about the southern border however that is where our biggest problem is with illegal aliens right now.

Illegal aliens should not be confused with anyone who comes to this country legally, through a legitimate Port of Entry, allowing us to make sure that they are not criminals before entering. (I have no idea why my speech-to-text converter insists on inserting capital letters in the middle of my sentences).

I find your comment comparing people who are deeply concerned about the flood of criminals coming into our country illegally with anti abolitionists who would have returned slaves to their owners to be extremely offensive, racist and uncalled for and if I was a moderator here you would be chastised immediately!

misdirection, ridicule, humiliation...that's the only tools the Open Border Society has since neither truth nor fact is in their corner. Basically they are blasting Trump for the exact same thing they supported when it was Obama or Hillary proposing it.

Yeah, the hypocrisy is astounding isn't it? What gets me is that none of their arguments hold water and yet they still cling to their illogical, irrational beliefs, mantras and narratives. I'd say the brainwashing of America was nearly complete about the time Trump took office and began revealing the truth.
I've been here on and off for years and as you can see I have never really participated in any of the forums. Do the moderators ever jump in when people start hurling racist insinuations Etc?

Why is it my responsibility to pay for the medical needs of foreigners when I can't even afford health insurance for my own family?

Why is it MY responsibilty to pay (with increased property taxes, etc.) for a football stadium I will never use?

Why is it MY responsibilty to pay taxes/ have my taxes go for things I despise and am against? (and there are quite a few)

Give the people already here social security numbers, therefore, they can be taxed on their income, and *your* problem/ gripe goes away..

Pick an arbitrary date...say..January 2019.
If you can prove you were here by that date and haven't commited any crime...then give them a social security number, and start collecting taxes from them..
Then start a program from *that* date with the new people to work on the imnmigration program/ problem.

Hispanics, as a group, have the lowest crime statistic..

I don't recall the uproar a couple decades ago when all the Asian gangs were such a problem in different cities (Nashville being one of them).

My other comment was about principle...
It was a "crime" to harbor a runaway or assist them in getting north..
They had no rights here, therefore weren't legal citizens.
Yet abolitionsist saw the way they were living/ being treated, and decided to help them.
Period.
If you want to make more of that than what i said..that's on ypou.
