Topic: Will You Be My Valentine? | |
---|---|
I have issue with Valentine's Day for a few reasons. a) There's the commercialism of it all, so disingenuous and so soon after we've had our pockets picked for Xmas! Commercialism is about making businesses money and yes, they will use anything that can successfully be marketed. Unfortunately it's the people who buy into it and help it continue. It's sad that we allow commercialism to put a damper on certain holidays, like Christmas... so many hate the holidays for that reason. Is it possible to rise above the superficial affect that commercialism creates to embrace what the day is really about? I believe for a lot of us it is possible. b) This great day for lovers but why is it that men have once again been placed in a position where we're expected to make so much effort, whilst women enjoy the spoils? There's more than one prize in a good relationship. Sounds like you haven't had much spoiling in return? Although I question how making an effort to give a woman or man that warm affectionate feeling is considered "spoiling"! I love showing a man how much I care and appreciate him... it comes natural for me so it's not something I see as having to make an effort to do so. I used to question why do need that special day to recognize love when it should happen every day. I see it differently now. Valentine's day can be a day where we set aside every day life to embrace and renew the love we share... a little reminder to not forget to add a little romance while living every day life in our relationships. c) If you feel the need to make a grand gesture on this particular day, you've probably been lacking in showing affection the rest of the year. Up your game! Likewise, if you feel your partner should make an effort, why for goodness sake are you still with them? Why do you feel it needs to be a grand gesture? It could be no different than someone's birthday. You make an effort to make that day special for him/her, so why not do the same on Valentine's Day? I can see feeling this way though if the women you have been with expect it to happen. Anytime something is expected it takes away that good feeling of doing something simply because you enjoy doing so. d) Nobody loves me Awww... |

I hate the commercialism of the day. Absolutely despise it. However, I do love the feeling of the day. I still remember the happy feeling when you ask the girl you like "to be your Valentine" and she said yes. It was an awesome feeling then and having a woman who wants to be your Valentine now is still kinda awesome. Exactly! |

Valentine's Day is less than 3 weeks away and I don't have a date! Kidding... I don't, but there's still time What's your ideal Valentine's date? Do you have a Valentine... either currently or someone in mind? Guys... What are some of the things you've given a sweetheart on Valentine's Day? Is it just another day to you? Ladies... What do you like to receive on Valentine's Day? Is this day important to you? Me... I love chocolate The date... Anything that he does, above and beyond normal daily stuff, to make the day a little extra special is what matters to me most I don't celebrate death and violence, so this isn't a day I celebrate. Ah... so you are familiar with the origins of Valentine's Day? I imagine knowing that would hinder the ability to see it for what it has become... more about romance than what it originally was about. I respect that, thank you for sharing your thoughts. |

I don't care much about Valentines Day but that might be because I had nothing to celebrate.
I don't need much. No card or flowers. Don't need to go anywhere expensive. Order a pizza, light some candles, play some music and gimme lots of attention |

Order a pizza, light some candles, play some music and gimme lots of attention Yes... lots of attention! Regardless of whether I have had someone in my life, I've always loved Valentine's Day. The energy of love and romance is something to treasure and it's at a peak on that day. We shouldn't need a day to remind us to pay a little extra attention to each other, but sometimes while living every day life we take for granted the ones closest to us and forget to add a little romance to the relationship... so a little help with this day isn't something I see as a bad thing. |

We have a choice Funky.... it can be a day we feel sad because we alone or it can be a day where we feel the energy of love in those around us. This year I'm choosing to embrace and feel the love and enjoy all the cute things that others do to make someone feel special. |
