The referee should have deescalated the Argument, before it went that far. "Comments from. Dr.Phil, when he was on the "TALK" yesterday. Dr.Phil plays tennis himself Regularly and Knows the Rules. funny, no one brought up Trump except people claiming someone would. as to the match, She is still a Champion. I still dont get why players get penalties on behalf of the coach, seems if a coach does something, in a high stakes tournament, it should be the coach who is fined and penalized. In a statement provided to PEOPLE, Katrina Adams, USTA Chairman of the Board and President, said, “What Serena did on the podium today showed a great deal of class and sportsmanship. This was Naomi’s moment, and Serena wanted her to be able to enjoy it. That was a class move from a true champion.” The statement continued, “What Serena has accomplished this year in playing her way back on to the tour is truly amazing. She continues to inspire, because she continues to strive to be the best. She owns virtually every page of the record book, but she’s never been one to rest on her laurels. She’s always working to improve; always eager to embrace new challenges; and to set new standards. She is an inspiration to me, personally, and a credit to our sport, win or lose.” “I know that she was frustrated about the way the match played out, but the way she stepped up after the final and gave full credit to Naomi for a match well-played speaks volumes about who she is,” Adams concluded. http://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/u-open-champ-naomi-osaka-135430426.html I am not a Fan and never was!! Do Not watch or like Tennis!! ![]() If she had been a Man she wouldn't have got One game taken away!! |

interesting subject, probably belongs in the "Sports" thread...no? in any case....I have no doubt (nor should anyone) that if Serena Williams happened to be a white woman this thread would not exist.. or not "Serious people need to quit using the minority card everytime " as you pointed out, she actually said it was sexist ,,, not racist. The OP introduced the 'minority card' |

Wow. This morning when my alarm went off at 3:30am, I watched about 3 minutes of news. I was surprised to see CNN not talking about Trump. I agree Serena is getting too much attention. We will see if the woman who beat her gets the same. ![]() |

Naomi Osaka is a 20 year old tennis pro who won her 1st grand slam event the 1st ever for a Japanese citizen (man or woman)in the history of tennis.. She does deserve her moment of glory and attention, but to suggest she deserves the same amount afforded to Serena Williams is ludicrous.. Serena, is without doubt, the greatest female tennis player of all time she is arguably one of the greatest female athletes ever and she demonstrated class and humility by pleading with the raucous crowd to stop their booing during the trophy presentation and let Naomi have the spotlight on her championship day... you can choose to remember her for this brief moment of emotional outburst if you want to, but believe me, the unbiased people of the world will remember her for what she is--a true champion in her chosen sport...a woman of great ability, dignity, humility and class... Her accomplishments, not as a woman, not as a black woman but, as a human being deserve respect and admiration...she has mine, and she should have yours also... |

I don't watch tennis. I've saw more about problems with child birth and missing her babies 1st steps. Why that's on the news, I have no idea. She definitely didn't look graceful on the news. But I'm guessing she will lose a lot of sponser money if she continues to lose. I guess that would have most people upset.

according to her stats losing has happened before without incident, and she is still very well paid, so Im guessing sponsorship or the 'money' is not as much an obsession of hers as it is of others.

I think it's safe to say this game was very important to her. She missed her baby's first steps to train and lost. I think she was trying to have a super mom appearance.

I think it's safe to say this game was very important to her. She missed her baby's first steps to train and lost. I think she was trying to have a super mom appearance. I imagine every game is important to her. And that plenty of working mothers miss 'first steps' (they happen once and last a few seconds). I think she is trying to bring up her child with honest values, and did not appreciate being associated with having cheated on national recorded television. |

![]() A lot of working mom's have to work. I think Serena should have taken time to enjoy her baby. |

I think her baby will be just fine, and will not be impacted by or remember who was watching her during those 'first steps'. |

The point is it's not just those steps she missed. How the kid turns out depends a lot on whoever is raising the baby. Also if Serena spends time with the baby. The baby might not remember but Serena will always think of what she put 1st.

I think it depends on the situation. I worked when my 1st 2 kids were small but they stayed with grandma and I came home everyday as soon as work was over. My social life was about them. Cub scouts, dance class etc. My mom was sick when my 3rd was born and I choose to stay home. I've gone back to work now that she is 14. It's still tough at this age. I call and text her everyday from work and I'm home every evening.
I just think Serena should have waited on having a baby until her career was fading. |

On mingle you are censored for these things, but apparently if you are a black women tennis player that is also a mother you are a hero and a roll model for doing such a thing. No grown up should ever be praised for throwing a full fledged temper tantrum!

I've yet to see anyone, screaming, win an argument. Unless the person being screamed at just gives in because of the scene that's being created.
What I know about tennis, could be put in a thimble. I understand more about Cricket. ( And that's about as messy a game as you could ever find) |

I just think Serena should have waited on having a baby until her career was fading. Serena will be age 37 come September 26th. The claim that she should have waited on having a baby is a silly claim. Seriously, why the attack on her parenting? |
|
|
|
I just think the news has put her into the spot light as being super mom. I think that is why she was so upset that she lost. People have babies everyday. No need to put serena's day to day issues as some thing special. The tantrum put her in a worse light than just losing. Her kid and others should have a better role model.

I think Serena went way overboard.
