Topic: To remember or to forget? | |
---|---|
The memories I want to remember are the shared experiences.
I am not the same person I was in the past - I look at things a different way knowing what I know now, and I sense things differently (senses can get damaged over time). I remember things that are relevant to me as I look forward to the future. The rest I forget but remember in dream. There is something powerful about shared experiences though. |

Not really forget, hoping to never have to go through specific things, yes.
But if you've really dealt with painful / less pleasant things, would you still feel the need to forget them, I wonder? There'd be no need for that. Accepting and letting go, one of the most difficult things in life. |

I seem to have a very selective memory which really is an advantage for me but the lesson learned sometimes goes with it too

I dont want to forget even the most painful experiences of my past. Most of my failures , mistakes, or gut-wrenching experiences ultimately served as helpful feedback for my improvement .
But I admit that its an ongoing challenge to give the future my undivided focus as opposed to taking way too many glimpses at that rear-view mirror that Aroundtheworld described |

There'd be no need for that. Accepting and letting go, one of the most difficult things in life. I admire how you explain things logically, Crystal. ![]() |

I seem to have a very selective memory which really is an advantage for me but the lesson learned sometimes goes with it too ![]() Yes, whether it's good or bad the important thing are the lessons we learned from those experiences that made us move forward. |

I've had all sorts of abuses, embarrassments, and humiliations in my past. Remembering them can be like reliving them at times. But I don't think I would opt to erase them from my memory even so, because the lessons I learned because of them would, I fear, revert to being unlearned, and make me vulnerable all over again. Thank you for sharing. ![]() |
