Topic: Roseanne immediately cancelled after racist twitter rant... | |
---|---|
racist: adjective showing or feeling discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or believing that a particular race is superior to another until looking like a monkey is considered a compliment, I believe that it shows a belief in someone's inferior appearance, which is why it can be taken as racist when applied to black folks, who have been compared to animals and dehumanized throughout western history ... I agree, people are never ALWAYS right about anything. but people do have some frame of reference in any discussion. |

On the news they put up a pic of the woman and a pic of planet of the apes. The woman had similar features. I don't get what the big deal is. Trump has asked why they didn't make anyone apologize to him for terrible remarks. The point is the station has a double standard. You do understand that right? Its not really a double standard in Trump's case, he gets back what he dishes, thats more like Karma. Unprovoked attacks on others is a different matter, and there is also the matter that this wasnt a matter of one comment but a series of events that included the comment ...and led to cancellation and no one could make the claim of racism without being challenged ... so ... its the norm to insult EVERY president depending upon which way one voted, |

I think she kind of looks like Roseanne. So that probably wasnt a big deal but the last straw in a line of other things that have probably gone on to cause others to quit the show. |

A racist hates other races, no matter if they look like a ape or not.
The person can be attractive but a racist wouldn't notice that. |

I think it was a mistake to cancel it. I don't see the big deal about her comment. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? I would have continued to watch the show. You don’t see the big deal about her comment because you’re white. There’s only one thing worse than a racist and that’s those who ignore it, or as in your case, condone it. Come on Mo, it was a racist comment. Saying Bush or Tom Cruise look like a monkey is not racist no, it’s more of an insult. What she said would obviously cause offence. the fact is that to compare a person of color to an ape is something that has been done to colored people for centuries in an attempt to dehumanize them. and,to try to defend these actions is to condone racism!! it is what it is! |

re: panspernia Good one, Moe. Ya taught me a new word. Even my Mirriam Webster c.1999 did not have it. Maybe I need to upgrade. When one comes on sale for $2 at the thrift store... Had to go to Wiki, no, not the leaky kind. Um, so, I wasn't going as far as space dust, but I get your point. |

Y'all Race is not the issue. Consider: Mitochondrial DNA has been traced back to the 'original mother' who emanated from, guess where—Ethiopia. So we all share the same traits. Furthermore, if one is to believe Darwin's Theory of Evolution, mankind, in general descended from the Simians. If one believes in the Judeo Christian theology, you would be hard-pressed to prove that Christ was white-skinned. The real issue is money and power. Disney, which owns ABC, needed to preserve its brand of family oriented, wholesome, apple pie status. It would have cost more to turn a blind eye to racist remarks with possible boycotts from advertisers and viewers going elsewhere on principle. 'Divide and conquer', familiar with that? While the populous yammers about skin color, tribalism (in the political sense, ergo, liberal versus conservative, yada yada), the rich and powerful are meanwhile: giving you a measly $50 tax break while pocketing millions; gutting the EPA so that irresponsible corporations can pollute at will, ditto the Consumer Protection Agency; ditto Planned Parenthood and Women's Health; tearing children away from parents because, heaven forbid, less fortunate folks are trying to escape murderous regimes. Wake up to what is really happening! Look for ways to get along, be inclusive instead of divisive. We are all brothers and sisters and at worst, cousins. Like black lives matter? To me all lives matter well,ALL lives DO matter, but not ALL LIVES are equally at risk, are they? so,IMO,to try to compare black lives,to other, less at risk lives as a method to delfect a statement that you dont like,or pivot the issue is disingenuous. |
