Current storm track puts Gordon to my east.
Looks like its gunna hit near Biloxi - Mobile, AL. Its also late according to the 8pm est expected landfall. Outside, in the sky I see the outer bands but no circular movement. The birds are still on the power wires and there is minimal wind and no rain at all. I feel cheated... |

Do you want houses wrecked and people killed? Not really but when I get alerts on my phone for an imminent disaster I think it might be important for it to actually BE an imminent disaster. I've seen spring storms with greater fury that got no warning and still did no damage. Currently 76° RealFeel® 77° Cloudy Winds from the N @ 13 mph Humidity: 83% Pressure: 29.89 in ↓ UV Index: 0 Cloud Cover: 100% Ceiling: 2354 ft Dew Point: 71° F Visibility: 9 mi 13 MPH! really? |

The whole point of me posting this is to show how the media sensationalizes anything.
Get people all worked up and they hit the stores preparing for the worst. When I went on my beer run earlier the store was completely sold out of many things like salad fixins, bread and water. It was packed with people that knew the end was coming, but...the end is not coming... Thank you weathermen for getting everyone to panic and buy my stuff! LOL, its rather amusing. |

I took a dfrive by the beach on my way home.
Yes, the waves were a bit more aggressive than normal but not so much more than a normal summer storm. BUT, there were news crews making broadcasts all along the beach with photographers set up on the balconys waiting for that one chance to capture something people would be willing to pay money for. The FEW houses that were boarded up or shuttered were mainly the million dollar beach front properties that were doing it for insurance purposes more than fear of losing something. Us real, regular people were still fishing at the pier and walking along the surf. Last night, I got a series of 4 emergency alerts to take shelter because Hurricane Gordon would be making landfall in my area. WTH? Jebi, the typhoon that just hit Japan is terrible. but here are a few headlines about Gordon... Reports: Emergencies declared as Gordon makes landfall on the Gulf Coast with heavy rain, wind Strengthening Gordon to strike Gulf coast Tuesday evening I have declared a state of emergency in advance of Tropical Storm #Gordon, making state resources and personnel available to affected areas. I’ve issued a State of Emergency for #TSGordon directing essential state agencies to be on the ready should they be needed over the next couple of days. Residents along the Gulf Coast are preparing for high winds, heavy rain and potentially life-threatening storm surge to the region The same thing occurred in Florida last year. That however, WAS a real hurricane. People are ready for hurricane news. The media know they will react to it. So, when a storm threatens an area, the media push the dire warnings which make everyone go into panic mode. Its good for business. Feck the news reports, I'll believe it when I see it and if I'm wrong, I guess I'll die. |

it has been raining here for sevral days.
BUT,considering that we have been in a severe drought the past few months, and been under burn bans,i do not mind the fact that we have now transitioned from 'dust' to 'mud'! [PLUS,it has brought the temperatures down from the 100's to the 80's] |
