seriously, when will we consider the damage our actions and impressions and greed (that we use as an excuse to ignore the human repurcussions) are leaving on undeveloped minds ?

A gunman opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school in Parkland, Fla., on Wednesday, officials there said. According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, there were multiple fatalities and at least 14 people were injured. The shooting suspect, a former student, was taken into custody in nearby Coral Springs. Follow below for the latest updates.

Its obvious that as a society we are not learning something we should...

Its tragic. I understand everyone is not a believer, but our current state makes me think of the biblical warning, "What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul"

more and more technology and gadgets and greed and 'freedoms', and less and less community and humanity.

to think that each of us started out in a nursery with boundless potential ....
I cant imagine what those parents are going through. Its one thing understanding potential dangers on the streets, but to be facing death during school .... its a shame.

Perhaps it has to do with the individualistic isolating nature of our current social trends?
Couple that with promotion of narcissistic mindsets with all the instant gratification we are surrounded by.
Society is causing its own problems.

it all comes together towards an empty and less humane big picture, and a larger divide between the haves (who will see themself superior and more deserving, desperate to maintain their statys)

and the have nots (who will see themself as prey for the haves, and be desperate to acquire status)

watching from Spain this morning makes my sadest morning. I feel for the family of the victims. I hope the US should start giving security guides to all institutes because things like this is getting worse in US. praying to God to protect the student from the evil ones

WHY? aren't our master legislators Like Nancy & Chuck addressing armed guards in schools. Only seems logical. Give veterans a job protecting our children. Could only help. 18 school shootings so far this year. It happening at an alarming rate and it's sad, but I don't see an end to it with the amount of people inhabiting the earth at the rate it's going, and the mindset and mentality of society today. People need to vote for a better cause and those overbaring libtarded ones aren't making things any better in America.

Here in Texas some schools are allowing teachers and Admin. to be
armed with proper training. In our city here we have an armed police
officer on each campus along with a school district police force.
It's sad that our schools are starting to look like prisons on lock
down. It's no wonder parents are looking for alternative ways to
education their children.

I think America needs to rerun some of their old western movies to see how well it works out when everone carries a gun.

So sad. My heart bleeds for parents whose wards were involved.
Insecurity is a global menace, though wears different masks in different places.
However, this commando style assaults by high school or former high school juveniles on former or present colleagues show that the young are fast losing touch with the human milk of kindness.
What devilish mindset!
I fault the break down in the family system.

it is also where my mind goes ... rebellion against the natural design to replace it with what makes us 'happy' isn't going quite so well for our children or our culture in the long run ....

Every time this happens; shooting, bombing, madman with a car, there is a public outcry of sympathy, fear, and anger.
People cry out for something to be done.
People send their $5 to the cause and then its forgotten.
The victims lives are forever changed but time softens the impact.

Then it happens again and we repeat the process.
Again and again and again.

We know there is a problem but we can't stay focused on it long enough to come up with a working fix.
Its like "OMG, another shooting!", "OMG, another bombing!"
People treat each offense like its some special appalling thing that surprises and bewilders.

"Why did this happen?", "Oh no, another shooting", "Something has to be done!"...Then they go back to work, back to their game or movie or TV show and its forgotten till the next time, then, repeat the process.

Society is reactive, not proactive.

There have been a few feasible suggestions right here in this thread. I'm sure there are lots more feasible suggestions on facebook, twitter and all the social media sites.
The problem is society doesn't heed the feasible suggestions.
People don't notice other people until its too late. We're all too wrapped up in our own lives to take active steps to prevent these things. Its someone else's responsibility.

I assure you, There will be another shooting and bombing.
More people will be maimed and killed.
The problem will continue to exist until society unifies to prevent it. That prevention will not be effective until no more tragedies like this happens.

I agree and much of that is the result of drug use. Until we get a handle on drugs we are fighting a loosing battle.

now the shooter is apparently part of a white hate group...

http://sputniknews.com/us/201802151061705339-white-nationalist-group-florida-shooting/

But his real name is Nicolas de Jesus Cruz... White hate groups don't like Mexicans...

people have always been using drugs though, I believe it is more about the mindset of people, those using drugs or not, and the culture that impresses those mindsets upon them

there is no word that this shooter was using any drugs ...

Because only guns kill? Even in Australia, homicide is still up. Even without guns, you have bombs, vehicles, knives, etc. Killings happened even before guns and will continue without them.

Plus other countries don't have border/smuggling problems like us. Can't compare the USA to where you live. Not them same. You don't get our problems

Even though many things kill, it doesnt absolve us of trying to do something about the ones we can. Most of these shootings are not by immigrants, so that issue is not the 'problem' that needs addressing in this case.

people have always cheated government assistance programs, yet the politicians attempt to run on their plans to address those programs.

people have always tried to enter the country illegally, yet politicians attempt to run on their plans to address those programs.

if we can address these things in spite of people always doing them, why cant we address the issue of children being gunned down in schools?

I believe a lot are home grown. But someone wanting to commit a crime will buy it off a truck or back alley. I prefer to be able to protect myself
