If you had a cup full of life And One sip would give you immortality.. that one sip would make the person immortal... they would live forever... the cup holds a hundred sips.. what would you choose to do with it.??. give the gift of immortality to family to friends.. sell some sips of everlasting life.. would you give it to your children as soon as they were born or wait till they're old enough to decide if they wanted to live forever... remember one sip you live forever...

Hmmm, I would no doubt misuse it. Not sure I would want any other perennials around. Plus, stuck at this age infinitely? I think I would just hoard it..until a good idea came along. |
|
|
|
what would you choose to do with it.?
If it would reset my age to about 25-30, and I could be that age perpetually, plus throw in a healing factor, and ability to genetically modify myself in the future (say, in 100 to 1000 years when we can take pills and grow gills or super strength), then I'd probably take a sip. Otherwise I would water it down in gallon jugs or something and then sell 10 years of life to people and make a fortune. give the gift of immortality to family to friends
Immortality isn't a gift. It would be a responsibility and potentially horrible nightmare. And who knows what effects it would have on your brain if over 10,000 years you condition yourself to not feel fear based on biological urges towards self preservation. You could easily become a monster. sell some sips of everlasting life.. would you give it to your children as soon as they were born or wait till they're old enough to decide if they wanted to live forever.
I would never offer it to anyone. If I couldn't dilute it and sell a bit of extended life, then at most I'd take a sip then pour the rest out. |

I would use it for 50 wedding gifts

Unless it took me back to my twenties too... I'd sell it all, because I don't want to live forever in this condition.

If atrophy, disease, and decay is stopped, and damage is continuously repaired to at least 'as is now' condition, then I would take it; but I wouldn't want to get around like a hollywood zombie, maggoty corpse, skeleton, or ghost, as time goes on, yuk.
Imagine the knowledge you could accumulate; skills to gain; technology to make; visit nearly everywhere; do almost anything. Could get bad towards the end though, when the sun eventually consumes the earth. 'Forever' may mean you are left bodyless and planetless, hanging in empty space - a human black hole for the rest of forever. Then I'd try to divide the waters, and create light ! |

I would not drink it. What happens when all the lights go out?

to be immortal means to be completely healed.
i would then share it with those who are deathly ill. then while we spend generation after generation together, i would format a scientific medical team to create advances in medicine to better heal the mortal soul. one would think in enough time, we might be able to recreate the original life formula that gave us immortality. but, i might also just dump the contents to begin with and smash the cup. after knowing the history of mankind and observing the present, i don't know that i would want to live forever and be able to witness just how corrupt humanity will eventually become!! it's rather a sickening reality already. i would hate to exist if the practice of rape and child molestation becomes normal and acceptable to society standards |

From what I understand there is a real scientific possibility of a Cup of Life in our relatively soon future.
Eric Drexler wrote an inspiring (and easily read) paper on Engines of Creation. http://e-drexler.com/d/06/00/EOC/EOC_Table_of_Contents.html Nanotechnology hold promise of immortality at the atomic level of cellular repair. While science is still a long way from nano-bot assemblers and AI nano-controls, science is working towards the reality. In this short book, Drexler talks about repairing human bodies and maintaining them at the atomic level. He also talks of repairing the planet the same way. Its a pretty interesting read. Plus, its an optimistic view of cutting edge science. The possibility of immortality is no longer purely fantasy. What I wonder is, if death and disease is removed, what becomes of humanity and the human condition? If we no longer die, will we still be human? |

What I wonder is, if death and disease is removed, what becomes of humanity and the human condition? If we no longer die, will we still be human? interesting but it leads to a couple of questions that seem more like red flags. everything, the universe, earth, nature, humanity, wildlife, insects, molecular structures, bacteria, etc...the moment life erupts on whatever level it also begins to die. the moment we were conceived and developed before birth, our biological clocks began running backwards. we did not gain time in the womb as the clock was already ticking backwards. it would therefore seem like energy does have an expiration date after all. every disease that has killed life attacks us differently. this does not include accidents like car deaths, drowning, gun wounds, falling off tall structures. the only way i see this cup of life working is if we became a single cell molecular structure. basically a snail or amoeba. what kind of life would that actually be if we ended up in a lab as a scientific test sample? we wouldn't even know it or understand it!! i think this cup of life is a nice gesture, but it's like pissing into the wind. if you move and aim with the wind, you think i won't get wet. that is, until the wind changes on you |

the moment we were conceived and developed before birth, our biological clocks began running backwards. we did not gain time in the womb as the clock was already ticking backwards. it would therefore seem like energy does have an expiration date after all. Normal cells divide. one becomes two which becomes four which become eight then sixteen and so on. When a zygote is created it grows. Growing is the opposite of dying. Cells have a lifetime. As a cell dies off more cells grow to replace it. This growing pahse starts to slow for humans during puberty but does not take a shift to a dying phase until later in life. I buy this 100%. where I stop buying it is knowing that billions of single cells have been observed in the past 150 years under the microscope. and the only time the process of dividing 1 to become 2 and so forth was due to biologist manipulation. I also believe in 150 years, we should have found at least 1 sample from the literal billions of single cells tested to be nearing this stage of evolving. even in my own limited capabilities of understanding, I know it is impossible that all single cells tested were the same age. some had to be hundred thousand to millions of years older than the others. and still, no such division has yet to happen on its own naturally. Disease is Diss Ease. Anything that causes diss ease is a disease. That includes the flu, a broken bone, anything.
I like this analogy and definition The first law, also known as Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy cannot be created or destroyed in an isolated system. The second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of any isolated system always increases. The third law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of a system approaches a constant value as the temperature approaches absolute zero. The Universe, the entire Universe itself is an isolated system. the lab where a biologist manipulating the process of the division of 1 single cell to become 2 and so forth would fall under an isolated system. but the point being, when we discover these single cells, they are not in an isolated environment but their natural environment. and at least 1 sample should have evolved to the dividing process. which has yet to have happened. and makes it look as if science is stretching the facts once again. Scientists use the word entropy to describe the amount of freedom or randomness in a system. ... That increase in freedom that corresponds to an increase in disorder is entropy. Entropy is thus a measure of the random activity in a system, whereas enthalpy is a measure of the overall amount of energy in the system.

You feel damned or divine based on your perception of your life. You get damned or sanctified by others perceptions of your life. But, life is just life. Heaven & Hell is a reward and punishment system devised by religion to shape behavior thru faith. A person that does not believe they sinned, requires no justification. If you feel no remorse for that act, you have not sinned. You killed but there is no retribution. For you to live, you must eat. For you to eat, you must kill, something must die. Sorry, got distracted with a different topic. LOL Well this is clearly your opinion and you are rightly entitled to it, however I disagree with your position regarding heaven and hell. Heaven and hell exist because God's Holy Word states that they exist not because of reasons and "feelings" from mankind. Regrets and "feelings" of being justified have nothing to do with whether or not heaven or hell exist. The reality of heaven or hell isn't based on ones "feelings" of one feeling damned or divine . Life is not just life, it is precious . Humans were made in the "likeness" of our creator God. That definitely isn't something to take lightly and it requires accountability. You have stated , "a person that does not believe they sinned , requires no justification ". Number one, that is just absurd because everyone who is capable (exception of babies and the mentally challenged) have willingly sinned multiple times and number two, are born with an inherited sin nature. As far as the vegetable comments , they do not have souls and were created by God for us to consume. That being said neither of us can prove or disprove whether heaven or hell exist. We both (all) exercise faith one way or another regarding the matter. As for me I will take the wisdom from God's Word over worldly wisdom every single time without one scintilla of doubt. |

the only time the process of dividing 1 to become 2 and so forth was due to biologist manipulation
Where did you get that idea? The whole process of life is cell division. YOU are the result of cell division. You are a zygote of sperm and egg. Fertilization causes the egg to divide and grow into you. Without cell division, you would merely be an egg with a spermatozoa inside. Animals grow by cell division. Plants grow by cell division. Even bacteria divide. when we discover these single cells, they are not in an isolated environment but their natural environment
The entire Universe is an isolated system in and of itself. The entire Earth is an isolated system from space and other bodies in the Universe. Since we have never been to another planet, everything we observe and test are from this planet or debris from other orbiting fragments within the isolated solar system. You put a marble in a box and seal it shut, the marble is in an isolated system (environment). There are different biomes on Earth that act as natural isolated systems. Look at Madagascar or Australia. Whole species are the result of isolated systems. Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy cannot be created or destroyed in an isolated system How you got to what you replied from what I wrote mystifies me? makes it look as if science is stretching the facts once again.
Um, science doesn't stretch the facts. It attempts to explain reality but sometimes the people are ignorant of what they are studying (ignorance means lack of understanding). Science rechecks itself, revises itself as knowledge is gained. We don't know everything about everything. We don't even know how one system effects other systems in precise detail. Science is the process of figuring it out but it takes time. Sometimes its wrong and when it is proven wrong and backed by reality, science is revised to reflect those changes. the higgs boson in itself is a manipulated system. it's function is separate from its design. meaning, it works specifically as it was mathematically designed to work. therefore, higgs the creator, is its god and manipulator. he created it specifically for the purpose of proving how the BANG would take place. and we know this is a manipulation, because the COBE telescope reveals the higg boson is 100% incorrect. the Bang required no laws, which the Boson is an example of these laws creating the conditions for the BANG.
Okay, there are one of two things with that statement. Either I am misunderstanding you or you truly have no idea what you are talking about. You do know the Higgs Boson is an elementary particle that was not created, it was found. Higgs theorized it existed and scientists looked for it. They didn't find it till they had the technology able to detect elementary particles. Higgs postulated that this particular boson type is what keeps matter from all moving at the speed of light. A universal speed limiter. I have looked at the theories on the Higgs Boson in a long time but I think that theory was incorrect or has yet to be proven. The last lecture I watched on this was from Professor Kim Griest in his video The Mystery of Empty Space: http://youtu.be/Y-vKh_jKX7Q?t=1m5s Higgs Bosons, Vacuum Energy and Extra Dimensions Which was made before the Large Hadron Collider went operational. in my opinion, knowing how the Bang actually happened and then the laws took effect, science needs to toss their data and begin again. the moment you understand the beginning [like we do now], is the condition by which you begin the process.
You have every right to have your opinion. Personally, I don't think there was a Big Bang at all. I already went into my understanding in other threads in this forum. and knowing the laws did not create the Bang, but were the result, proves past theories are inaccurate. this basically puts science back to square 1.
and maybe understanding this, biology and chemistry can finally be effective in creating medicines that don't cause side effects, to where we become dependent in order to save our lives. you know, no longer as a test subject that ends up like a piece of cold meat in the hospital waiting for the slab. Wha...? I'm having trouble following your reasoning, the more I read from you? How are all these statements related? My responses have been on your reply... everything, the universe, earth, nature, humanity, wildlife, insects, molecular structures, bacteria, etc...the moment life erupts on whatever level it also begins to die.
the moment we were conceived and developed before birth, our biological clocks began running backwards. we did not gain time in the womb as the clock was already ticking backwards. it would therefore seem like energy does have an expiration date after all. |
