The side effects vary. If you feel yourself in a deep depression it's not a bad idea to seek professional help. Wish you the best

It can't really be defined irrespective of how rich or poor you are...in a monetary sense... because loneliness isn't about outward things. It's about how you feel inside. You can be in a room full of people and still feel isolated and lonely. Rich people can have feelings of loneliness, as well as poor people.

When it comes to rich health or poor health, in respect to loneliness, one of the side effects can be poor health. Feeling isolated, and like you are all alone in the world can lead to depression as well as physical health issues.

Like dreamerana said, if this is an issue, seeking professional help is highly recommended.

Whether you are rich or poor , we are all humans and we have emotions. We all experience loneliness and most of the time when we feel down we seek for a company from family, friends, acquaintances, people from your surroundings. As what Dreamerana said, the side effects vary depending on how an individual deal with his or her emotions for every individual, has different personalities, could be extrovert or introvert. Loneliness could lead to depression if one is so weak to handle the cause of it, some seek comfort and others just tend to isolate themselves.

But for me, I don't let loneliness get to me. When I feel it, I do things to get away from that state. Seek diversions to take away your mind from loneliness. I sing when I'm alone, keep my self busy at work or at home or do what I like to do, go out with friends. If you keep yourself to your loneliness, darkness will envelope you till you get suffocated by it and feel helpless leading to mental illness, depression, insanity or even resort to suicide.sad

I'm not sure if it was a side effect of loneliness or alcohol, or a combination of the two, but in the case of my dad after the divorce, it was a bullet to the head.

what are the side effect of loneliness?

Since loneliness is a cycle of depression all effects of depression are side effects of loneliness.

Low Self-Esteem
Feelings of Helplessness
Self-imposed Isolation
Feelings of Worthlessness
Excessive Compulsions
Loss of Cleanliness and Personal Hygiene
Disorganization
Personal Illusions, Delusions and Hallucinations
Loss of Personal Activities
Excessive Masturbation
Clock Watching
Distance Viewing (Peering Window Syndrome)
Excessive Wishing, Dreaming or Longing
Long Periods of Personal Inactivity (Zoning Out)
Anger at the World Around You
Loss of Emotional Control
Self-Justified Substitution

Being lonely is not the same as being alone. Many people that consider themselves as alone are not truly alone. Many people that are lonely are not truly alone. Some people are truly alone but are not lonely. The degree of loneliness someone feels changes as their depression cycles.

To treat loneliness, treat the depression. Companionship does not always remove loneliness. The only thing that reduces the feeling of loneliness is acceptance of being alone. Even then, we all feel lonely sometimes.

There are a handful of "positive" aspects to loneliness:

Introspection and self evaluation
Doing things purely for self enjoyment
Being able to change your person or surroundings (much more difficult when you have to have concern for others)
Being able to shut down life's "noise"
Being able to just sit and read
Greater enjoyment and appreciation of "company"
Building of confidence by being able to do things alone
More "free" time
Ordering pizza the way you like it - every time
Eating the entirety of said pizza
Being able to just "walk away" (throwing lit match over your shoulder is optional)

I'm sure there are more I'm not thinking of

Loneliness is a state of mind that is depressive. Those positive things you list are aspects related to being alone and are pretty accurate. Depression tends to be self-cycling meaning it perpetuates itself by making the things you think and do seem depressive.
